Never knew how important deadlifts were
I did them for the first time today (been BBing for 7-8 months now) and the back of my upper half of my leg feels sore! It feels amazing! I could also feel the workout in my lower back. So basically the back of my top part of my legs and lower back have never really been worked out (full body workouts I did previously were squats and bench press).
I only did 110 lb, 3x5. lol such a newb.

I've heard they widen your hip area and slow you down (running-wise).

I'm sure you've heard that they'll break your back and that weightlifting is bad for your joints too. All of them are myths (to a certain point... any exercise performed incorrectly is a recipe for disaster).
The King is Dead. I remember waking up in the morning after doing 4 sets of deads for the first time... my entire back, especially my traps, was so sore that it almost hurt to roll out of bed. It was ****ing awsome!
With good form, you'll abolish 90% of your back pain. It's a fantastic lift.

Deadlifts will increase hamstring, glute, and spinal erector size, but there is no correlation between muscular hypertrophy and speed. Simply look at sprinters. Many train with weights and are the fastest humans on earth.

Join the Club! i was one of those newbs that for the first 6 months trained chest shoulders and biceps. When i finally looked out of proportion, i started training back and legs. Thats when my friend deadlift arrived. He has been awesome at getting back mass. I dont shrug, although the deads have given me great traps, and a really thick middle/lower back. For everone reading this,
DO NOT EVER EVER SKIP DEADLIFTS!

I gotta say I wish that the deadlift, squat and such really didnt work as much as they did because that would stop some of the stupid arguring on her, although it would eliminate 75% of the conversations on this board. they are difficult because they work. done right, they will make you bigger and stronger, period. nothing better than a good set to swell the head a lil.

Cleans are a sick complicated lift, like a deadlift, shrug, and squat combined with extras.. look here on the Exercise database for a step by step guide, then ask your coaches if they know the Olympic lifts.
I'm in the process of learning right now and they're not something you can master in a few months at all.

Dude i LOVE deadlifts! seriously, they are my favourate exercise, i look forward to back day as soon as I finish it =p
I been doing them for a while, but really light, only started making them heavier about 2 weeks ago, so my weight still sucks (140kg, i think thats like what, just over 300lb?feck...) but the pump I get from them is insane. Deadlifts should only be done heavy, so you can be "strong like bull" =D
Also, the DOMS i get for the next few days is unreal. Such a sweet, sweet pain...

I do them with a hex bar. Am I missing anything by not using a barbell?
