Couture Vs. Sylvia.. WOW..
I think Webster might have to re-define what the words dominate and world class conditioning mean after watching Couture beat Sylvia like a 4th grade kid.. Coutures conditioning is almost beyond belief.. boy did I ever call this one wrong.. for those of you who didn't get to see the fight.. you can see it over at
http://dewsaw.com/sports/
It's a legit place to watch events.. they have the fights posted now, and you can see the whole Couture Sylvia fight..

Was Couture the 43 year old that Tatdawg was writing about last week? The other guy in the video is 30? (the video didn't say ages). You could tell before the fight began that Couture had the hungry eyes!!

Yes, yes, and yup
That was a great fight. I so wanted Couture to win, but I thought Sylvia would knock him out - that hit right off the bat just set the tempo and that rocked.
A 43 year old UFC Heavyweight champion - hell yeah he has 3 more fights in his contract - I hope he whoops cro cop next and then Fedor comes over and he takes him out to - I also hope he drags it out till he is 45 and retires at 45 as the UFC Heavyweight. It is impossible to count Randy out.
Further, to me personally his acceptance speach was truly awesome, he thanked Jesus Christ and the US GI - that man is a heck of an inspirtation.
Blessings,
- Fo3

Hi guys, my friend wrote a review of this fight that I posted in the other UFC thread:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=1689251
The old champ was Tim (30 years old) 6'8" and 265-lbs
The new champ is Randy (43 years old) and 6'2" 222-lbs
Randy is only 100 days from his 44th B-day.
*** Tim did confess coming into the fight with an unspecified injury, but he got whooped anyway ***
EDIT: The injury apparently was lower back related which kept him from properly training the final week.

That's hilarious "beat like a 4th grade kid" I think in the 5th round I saw him take his lunch money also LOL. That was a great fight to see thanks for the link.

I think the opposite of the fight itself. Boring to watch. Couture got him on the mat then Sylvia laid there hoping he could control his head for 4 minutes. I swear I could see him looking for a clock.
I think the heavyweight division of fighting (boxing etc..) is so devoid of talent right now that this isn't as much a surprise as many think. Wasn't that long ago that big, fat, George Foreman was king of boxing. I also wonder if UFC gave him a special package to unretire. I just hope it doesn't become WWE and Hulk Hogan.
Having said all of that, I really like Couture. Always have. Guy has always seemed to typify the values that I want to see in youth.
Fedor will kick his A$$ though.

Fedor is in PRIDE and has no plans to come over here. He *is* fighting a one-time fight for BODOG in Russia and his little brother ( 'little' is age only, he's 6' 5.5") is on the card as well.
Randy's next real competition will be the OTHER fighter from "Pride" that the UFC bought for 6 fights Mirko (Cro-Cop).
Cro-cop is a K-1 kickboxer, like Chuck Liddell, just think bigger and meaner.
LOL
Randy's win was amazing though !!

I am a huge UFC fan....since the early '90s when Shamrock was kicking *ss! Anyway, I really find Couture an inspiration!! What an awesome performance for a 43 year old. Makes me think I can do anything.

Thanks for posting the links to the fight.
Couture was amazing.
His technique was awesome, totally found Sylvia's weak points and exploited them perfectly.
Sylvia didn't stand a chance against the much more athletic opponent.

my brother teaches a form of cagefighting called shootfoghting. he has his own dojo and trains fighters. we watched the fight together. the thoughts are that couture faught a real smart fight. he studied sylvia and exploited his weaknesses. i like couture, always have but cro-cop may be a different matter. he is a much better striker with lethal kicks. and experianced from many battles in pride with top notch fighters. and fedor, well fedor is hands down the best fighter in the world right now. but for now couture is the UFC champion and i am very happy for him. hell yeah!

Sylvia just kept getting suckered by that right cross. Sylvia's hands were always too low - and when he jabbed with his left, he dropped his hands. Couture just timed it, stepped inside, and hit him with that right. Just take a look at Sylvia's left eye at the end of the fight - completely swollen shut.
Looking at the clip above, it looks like Couture faked with his left foot. Sylvia again dropped his hands and in stepped Couture.
This match was won on striking skills. Something that Sylvia never had to defend himself against since everyone was intimidated by his size and reach. Couture had his strategy down.
And down went Sylvia.
I'm glad that Couture didn't turn into Shamrock who was just humiliated by Ortiz....but different athletes, different attitudes.

Agreed.
We gained Cro-Cop, but lost Brandon Vera.
Pride has a lot of good heavyweights:
Fedor Emelianenko
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
Josh Barnett
Fabricio Werdum
Aleksander Emelianenko
Mark Hunt

i don't normally post here for obviously reasons (i'm 16), but i saw this thread and being a huge mma fan... what a performance by couture! i've got the ppv downloaded on pc, i can not get over the ovation when randy knocked tim down in the first few seconds, or when he was crowned champion. truely inspiring.
as randy said; "not bad for an old man!"

lots and lots of guys fight all the time for fun and for free. I am not denying these guys are serious true fighters and all that but I am sure there are plenty of folks reading this who have had a sideful of broken ribs, missing teeth, etc, just in there doing it for fun - maybe not the "octagon" but things like blood ranks etc.
When I was 25 I would have paid $3K to take on the champ. Now though I would pay $3K not to have to fight the champ But likewise for $100K I would do it in a heartbeat.

I agree.. if your doing what you love, money is secondary.. and the bonus is you will never work a day as long as you love it.

I guess UFC has taken care of their lack of heavyweight problems. They just bought Pride instead of developing talent.
Can't wait to see Fedor fight here as long as they don't do the "special rules" crap.
