Chef Jays Tri-O-Plex protein bars
I am about to reorder a set of protein bars. I was using Chef Jays Trioplex protein bars in caramel apple. What other flavors are good? Any other brand you guys recommend? These protein bars can be pretty expensive for a broke college student.

If you order from Mike ask for a variety box and he'll send you all the flavors.

I've noticed this bar too. It seems like it's more like a granola bar than a regular "protein bar". Does it taste like a Powerbar Harvest in terms of the texture?
I like the 6g of fiber but the first ingredient is soy protein which is a turn off. Plus, can you trust a protein bar made by an unheard of "Chef Jay" that doesn't make anything else?

Bump. I know the majority of bars are ****, but are these the real deal or they just like the rest? Are they worth the money or are they junk nutrition like the rest of the protein bars on the market.

I wish people would quit being so down on soy protein. Soy protein is an excellent protein source, esp. when combined w/ whey as in this bar.
The consistency of this bar is like bread. It tastes very good and has a much better protein/carb profile than most bars - but as all bars, it shouldn't be used daily. Buy a shaker bottle and some protein and carry it with you if you're going out.
I just have these for a snack every now and then. They are a good treat for when you're carb craving or want something sweet, much better than Detour/Uturn.

Why is soy protein an excellent protein source? Its amino acid profile is incomplete and it is estrogenic. Plus it might be 98% soy with 2% whey for all we know.
I seldom eat bars but I like to eat one every now and then as a snack myself.

A. Soy Protein is a complete protein. Also, it's richer in arginine than any other protein.
B. It isn't estrogenic. It has plant estrogens, which are very similar to those in humans, but alot weaker. So even if they did bind to the human estrogen receptor, it would act as an anti-estrogen, because the more potent human estrogen couldn't bind with the same receptor.

Well, considering the fact that they list whey protein first on the label, I would consider it to be half and half probably.
As far as estrogenic - hardly. Regardless of that, estrogen is not "bad" as everyone makes it out to be. I would expect the amount of phytoestrogens to be negligable and still yet, the positives outweigh the negatives when it comes to isoflavones, lignans, etc found in soy.
In regards to the amino acid profile, even though its BV is 74 - when you combine it with another protein source like whey it becomes a complete protein and is now completely bioavailable and digestable. Soy is also very high in BCAAs.
Just keep in mind, although soy is a cheaper protein source - most of the negative press you hear about it is from supplement companies trying to pimp their whey products.

I just ordered a box of chocolate peanut im goin to eat it in school if i can get it down in between classes. Ill post and let you guys know how it is.
Why is it not good to have a bar every day?obvoiusly bars in general arent the best, but it doesnt seem like the usual candy bar type protein bar.
This is kinda off topic but as far as protein supplements go im having a whey shake in the morning, one after workout, and propeptide before bed, and im using the trioplex bars for an in school snack, that sound ok?

I would rather wolf these protein bars than NN's Detour, U-turn, or One-Way bars (I've tried all three flavors x 3 boxes each (I ASSumed that they were good.))
That ****e is plastic.

Rather wolf them down, meaning because you prefer the taste? Or you feel better because you are eating a higher quality product.
I have tried NN's bars and they are obviously delicous, I would find it hard to beleive that Chef Jay could make something tasting better with these quality ingrediants.

one box contains 12 bars, i need about 2 boxes which will run me around 46 bucks. someone mentioned above that they use these bars every now and then. i have these bars down...not as a meal, but something that i need in my diet daily in order to get the proper amount of protein. it is hard to eat well while in school, so hopefully this is making up for part of it.

I think Chef Jay's bars are a higher quality product. NN's bars do taste better, but I was one of the poor saps to get a couple of boxes (U-turn) with several hard chunks of _whatever_ in the bars (and, NO, I don't want them to send me replacements.)
I'll never buy that stuff again.

I prefer the taste of Chef Jay's bars to next nutriton's line (U-Turn, One Way, Detour).
I also believe the quality control and label claims are more accurate with the Chef Jay products.

it sounds fine, but if you're on a budget i'd suggest you drop the propeptide before bed.

In my honest opinion, yes they really do taste MUCH better. The carbohydrates in the bar are actually of quality and not just glycerine like Next's bars. My personal faves are the Chocolate PB and the Caramel Apple. Keep in mind that these bars are much different than any other protein bar you've ever had. They are 130 grams, compared to the 80 approximate grams in Next's bars. They have an oat-like texture, and the taste of the apple caramel can best be descibed as a mixture of a thick, moist fig newton and apple pie.
