How to train my sister?
My little sister has been asking me lately to train her some stuff next time i am home from college. Ive been lifting on and off over the years and at this point i have my stuff down. She had an evaluation from a trainer and she was under average strength wise so she wanted me to help her out. She plays tennis btw as her sport and is 16. She is not looking for the muscular look or anything, just some strength. I can say that I am pretty good with male workouts, however I don't know how to train a girl. She usually goes on the machines and pretty much reps really light weight. She has a gym membership.
So I was thinking this:
Teach her the compound & barbell exercises. Then teach her barbell exercises. Emphasize good form of course and start with light weight. Probably am going to tell her to start 3 sets of 10 and then lower reps w/ more weight for strength as opposed to muscle building. How does that sound? Anything I am missing for a girl?
I think Ill recommend her do a riptoe routine to start off:
Bench, Deadlift, Squats, and Military press and then supplementing with some dumbbell stuff.
Am I in the right direction or approaching it completely wrong?
I have worked out with her in the past and she seemed interested but she couldn't keep up with me even with drastically less weight.
