Im going over to a girls apt. tomorrow for dinner. whats a good wine to bring?
i am not a big drinker. but i have asked a few of the more classy people i know. people who are professionals have graduated from college. and i go fishing with my dentist (hes real cool) he told me becuase im in college and i only work about 6 hours a week to buy either a pinot grigio or this stuff called yellow tail.
i liked the yellow tail bottle..but its 13 bucks. she has never had this kind of wine before so my only thing is that what if she googles the wine and sees that it cost be about 15 bucks. i will look like a cheap ass. but i AM a cheap ass ATM because im bringing 500 to the arnold classic..i told her i wanted to see her before i left for ohio for the classic. so she said i could stay over wednesday since i leave thursday night
whats a good one under 30?

it depends on what you are eating. If its a chicken or fish meal chardonnay is a good choice. I dont know if you have any good wine stores near you but I have one near me where there are isles based on the type and they have ratings and recomendations. So I usually go down the isle for the type of wine i am looking for and look for recomendations. I found one for $10 that i got for valentines day and it was one of the best chardonnays i've had. Try to find one from the Australia or New Zealand region. They're very good and very well priced.

When I was single, I always had a few bottles of White Zinfendal available. Some friends and I nick named it the "panty remover" of wines.
Just my 2 cents.

Blackstone if you're looking for american and yellowtail if aussie. If you're just drinking go with the Pinot Grigio and if you're having a meal it depends on the entree - white (pinot, chardonnay, white zin) goes with white wine and red meat goes with red wine generally. There are a lot of good wines for 10 dollars or so - no reason to spend more.

A personal favorite is Hogue Vinyard's Late Harvest Reisling. It is light, sweet, great bouquet, and usually rings in around $10 a bottle...plus it made the top wine lists for taste and finish. It will be good for any kind of white meat, and also as a finish or dessert wine.
For red meat, You could go with a Cabernet Sauvignon or Franc, or perhaps with a merlot if you're looking for something a bit deeper and not so dry. If the red meat is peppered though, you might be better off with a Shiraz or such.
I'm not impressed with the choices of any kind of Zin or blush for whites, or Sangria for reds, since they are pretty much just gussied up junk blends, and you can tell the difference once you get a taste for the quality wines.
that said, I prefer Diet Sprite. Tastes much better than wine...heck skim milk would be a good choice too.
Dude, I doubt she's gonna google the wine and think you're a cheapa$$. Chances are, she'll be happy you were that thoughtful. don't forget the flowers...something exotic like a bird of paradise is a sure hit, but so are lillies, however since you're saving for the Arnold, you could go with a field bouquet...lots of color and lets her know you were thinking of her; BONUS POINTS!
Good luck.

Agreed. Go to the store and ask for a reasonably priced bottle of wine (if it's an actual wine store, not if it's like...a convenience store)

Most whines don't really cost more than 13 bucks anyways dude. My aunt is a HUGE wine fiend, I bought her two bottles of wine for 25 bucks on Christmas, one was a merlot, the other was an Aussie Shirazz, she said they both kicked ass.

Too true.
Believe it or not Safeway has a decent selection. I've picked up some good wines there(red wine drinker here). I prefer the Merlot's esp with red meat and some pastas, but the Cabernets aren't too bad. Merlot has a bit more of a bite to it where the Cabs are smoother.

Get Chateau St. Michelle Eroica. It is a riesling and its about $20 at Costco. I dont even like wine that much but I buy this to have with nice dinners and it is excellent. Yellow Tail is not bad either though.

the yellow tail is fine! it's a popular wine and it's good. personally, if i were her, i'd think it would be a little pressed if a guy brought over a really expensive bottle of wine for a dinner (unless it's a special occasion, or if I knew he was wealthy)

Yellowtail is not a wine, it is a brand. The wine would be Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet etc...
Either way, it is a good brand. The type of wine would depend on what the food will be, as stated earlier.
For me, I like a red over a white with anything though..
Hope dinner goes well for you man and have fun at the Arnold.
