How do you get over being sick?
Hello everyone!
I'm new here, so forgive me if I didn't do a search for my answer first.
I had a long week at work, barely got 6-7hrs of sleep a day, but still completed my routine. Well, guess what!? I got a real bad sore throat, and it has just turned into a cough. YAACK!!
I worked on Saturday and decided to take a nap before the gym. I slept about 2hrs. I was soooooooo tired. I'm starting to think I should have just kept sleeping.
After I woke up, I'm off to the gym! I was a bit tired, but still had a very successful workout. But, now I had a sore throat!! I finshed off the night with a steak, ribs, and some potatoes.
I feel that not getting my full 8hrs minimum of sleep, and still training, caused me to get pretty vulnrable to sickness. That, and the mold count is so high right now, so it's hard to breathe out my nose. Well, to get to the point.........
How do some of you get over sickness? Sore throats, colds, coughs, etc.......
I'd appreciate any info or opinions! Thanks!!
Little Ricky

Get some vitamins into your system, eat fruits (apples and oranges), and drink in tons and tons of water too! And get more sleep for the next few days.

AJbuilder,
Thanks for your reply.
I took my multi-vitamin, and pretty much killed a gallon of OJ this morning. I've killed about a gallon of water as well. I've been relaxing all day too.
I should have know better that not enough sleep always gets me in the end!!!!
Thanks again!

Getting over illness...
Hmm. This is an interesting question. From a nutritionist's standpoint, these are the things backed by scientific evidence.
1) Vitamin C. I like to use Alacer Corp's Emergen-C. The raspberry flavor is excellent, this provides 1000mg of vitamin C per serving in a flavorful drink, along with a lot of other minerals and B-vitamins.
2) ZMA - I recommend this a lot and I like Twinlabs brand. Take it on an empty stomach before bed, good for overall immune function and you can use more zinc while sick.
3) Fresh garlic - raw and crushed, take one clove a day. Cheap and will knock infections right out of ya. Put it in a gelcap first if you can't handle the taste.
4) Sleep - you need more when you're sick.
5) Avoid exercise - virii thrive on oxygen, don't give them more by doing cardio.

Poor you.
Never go to college, have children, a job that pays over minimum wage, or a girlfriend if you can't function on less than 6 or 7 hours of sleep a day.
Yeah, more is optimal, but if you can hack life on 6 or 7 a night, you're in trouble.

Actually, never having children is a damn good idea.

i've had good luck with a megadose schedule of Vit. C.
2000mg. 3 x day x 3 days.
this usually gets me over a cold in a couple days instead of a week.
my doctor suggested it after reading some preliminary research.
*be aware, may cause diarrhea*

I hiked Half-Dome in Yosemite this weekend and not only did it completely drain me physically, but I caught a thunderstorm on the way down that completely soaked me. It killed my immune system and I have a cold now. I got a vitamin B/C complex and am hitting that pretty hard. Hopefully it helps. I'm looking to try ZMA too. I can handle diarrhea if it means I feel ok otherwise.
