What Supplements Are Worth Trying

I have done any supplement beyond a multi-vit. I've been working out seriously for almost a year now and I think I've made a good bit of progress (see my sign.) but I want more and I've been stalled for a couple of months now... So I need to change something to start progressing again and thought that trying some supplement might give me a little kick... but I'm sceptical about all the hype floating around...

I'm mainly looking to get lean and defined... to maximizing fat loss and minimizing muscle loss is my main goal... adding some muscle would be great but I want to see my abs and what muscle I have, the rest can wait. I know diet and cardio are what will get me there but a little help would be nice. I'm 50yo and have finally gotten my head in the right place to get the jockish bod I've want and I'm closer than Ive ever been to having it now.

What supp are likely to help me in this?? I've heard about Glutamine, EFA, ECA and other stuff but most of what I read seems absurd... what really is worth trying.

Thanks for your advice...

An ECA is a good place to start, as long as you are not too sensitive to stimulants and haven't had any issues with your heart.

Glutamine is great while cutting, as it helps you to preserve your muscle mass, speeds recovery, and helps your immune system. 5g pre and post-workout is a good bet.

EFAs or Essential Fatty acids are key as well; look for a supplement with a 2:1 ratio of Omega-3 to Omega-6. Flax seed oil is a good bet. as is fish oil.

Make sure your routine and diet are sound, otherwise supplements are a waste of money.

the only supplements im confident in recomending is creatine and multivitamins.eca works good as long as it doesnt bother you to much it can have side effects.

Thanks ---

I've droped about 35lb and 15-20%bf so I was doing something right with diet and workout I was hoping to have gotten to my goal by now but I've been stalled for a couple of months. Stress from work partly. I hope that's about to pass now and maybe some supp's can kick things going again...

Hello there,

The only stuff that I think is known to work and works for me is:

1) Protein Supplement
2) Creatine
3) Glutamine
4) ECA Stack (Ephidrine, Aspirin, Caffiene)

As for the rest. Im not sure.

Rleeson save your money on glutamine, not only is it crap and a hassle butits very expensive.

Its crap in a bottle.

Flax seed oil is great, its got many many beneficial properties, and hey its extra calories. I guess thats not really a supplement, but if you aren't not taking it and have the money, start taking it! Don't expect miracles though, its great but not that great, but if your taking 3 tablespoons a day in a couple weeks your gonna notice your skin become softer, and shinier and even maybe some wrinkles might smooth out Ive heard that its beneficial for joints at 6 tabelspoons a day.

Creatine is great for some, but i found it not to work one iota for me, but it sure doesnt hurt to try

And of course theonly other thing i recommend is prohormones and steroids(provided you researched and are ready for them), those will put on mass like no combination will! Those are truly the master of all supplements. They also will allow you to build muscle and often gain no fat while doing it even when eating higher amounts of calories then normal, often users will loe fat while gaining the muscle because they are in such a high anabolic state, like when they first started training, except even higher.
