The Wussification of American Dads

slight colin, but i'd like to hear your opinions

I just got back from a trip to the grocery store. sadly, chicken breasts aren't delivered in bulk to my doorstep. i wandered through the store for about 20 minutes and it seemed like in every other aisle i went down i'd run into this guy and his two young sons.

i was standing in front of the frozen veggie/ lean cuisine section when one of the kids wasn't looking and bumped into me. he fell and i reached down and helped the little dude up (5 years old tops), the kid was fine and wasn't crying or anything but his dad rushes over like the kid was bleeding out of his eye balls.

the dad proceeded to call him "sweetie" and "honey" about 4 times while telling him to watch where he was going and asking him if he was ok. the guy turned to me and apologized and i told him it wasn't a big deal and told him the kid hit me pretty hard and he might have a future as a Linebacker. the guy kinda laughed it off and picked the kid up to carry him.

about 5 minutes later i was behind the guy and kids in the checkout line. he dropped atleast 3 more "sweeties" on the kids while they pawed through the candy.

this isn't an isolated incident either. I've went to watch my little brother's soccer and hockey games a few times and it seems like alot of the dads there are absolute pussies.

anybody else encounter this type of behavior? i have a bad feeling it's gonna get worse and i'm not quite sure i can handle hanging out with these dudes at PTA meetings when i start hatching little Lurkers....


cliff notes: i make broad generalizations about dads being pussies based on a guy i dealt with at a grocery store.

My dad is a single parent and did all the laundry, grocery store, etc stuff growing up and he was no joke. I think there is a difference in being affectionate and being a pussy, though. Dads should be pretty hard imo.

You know a recent study shows that women pick men who are more feminine for their husbands. The guys who tend to be more hardcore bodybuilder outlaw types are chosen for a good time short term relationship. Maybe this has something to do with it. By the way I'm a dad to twin girls, but not even as woos sounding as that dude was. I try to make my girls a little on the tougher side. but that's just me.

ya...this is america tho, everything is revolved around not hurting childrens feelings and making sure there ok...im goin to school for phys ed. and there trying to have us not teach team sports like football and basketball because it would make kids feel like "losers" if there team loses....how freakin lame and there abandoning advertising to kids with snickers...

1. if that study is true, then that prolly explains alot of it.

2. never buy your daughters a webcam! ever! webcams are the new boybands for young girls. they'll end up shaking thier ass to sean paul on youtube.

no ****, if we are gonna talk about wussification we should start by addressing the extreme coddling of our nation's youth. learn how to take a rubber ball to the nose, it'll make a man out of ya.

it's because the majority of baby boomer parents who are coddling their children now claim to have had it rough when they grew up.
now because they want their kids to have it better, the pendulum has swung the other way.
it should even itself out within a generation or two.

Also the manly man image in the media seems to have disappeared. Just look back at the tv shows from the 80's and early 90's. Being a man was shown in shows like Married with Children. But now just look at all the tv shows we have on today men arent not being shown the same.
