829 calories oper day? WTF?!

So i just used the online calorie caculator from the recent article 'resolve to get that fat - getting lean in 2007' by biology babe.

According to that calculator, as a 57kg female with body fat of 22 percent, and a BMR of 1930 cals, if i want to loose a rather modest 1 kg per week, i have to cut down to 829 calories per day.

Is that right?

Is anyone else on this few calories? What do you eat? Do you ever eat?

please post a days diet sample

WOW. I don't think anyone could survive on that. Wouldn't your body go into starvation mode?

That is WAY too low. I would say a minimum for fat loss would be 1200 calories, but I would try to stick to closer to 1500.

Yeah, def. too low. I would try a different calculator. There are so many out there and there is no way that 800 calories is correct. If you were to eat only that many calories, you would starve your body, lose your muscle, etc.

Like the others said, at least 1200, higher is better. I wouldnt pay so much attention to the calories, but rather the amount (in grams) of protein, carbs, fat you are consuming.

That doesn't sound right. Part of the problem is that losing 2.2 pounds a week when you only weigh 125 pounds is not modest. 1 pound per week would be a more reasonable goal, which means you would eat 1430 calories per day (I am assuming that 1930 calories is your TDEE, not your BMR).

How tall are you?

I had a think last night, and it said that 829 was for someone with a sedentary job. Maybe they mean that ALL you do is sit up all day and they don't factor in ANY movement at all. whereas i'm walking to work in the mornings which takes between 30-45 minutes, going to the gym at lunchtimes and thai boxing 2 times a week.

I'm 125 but I have a very small frame, i'm 5ft 3, and I am am currently about 22 percent BF. Three weeks ago I was 24. I spent most of summer drinking too much and piled on about 12 pounds.

I've been doing this for 3 weeks. Although i've dropped bf I haven't lost a pound!

I'm averaging about 1700 calories a day. Was going to take it down to 1400 temporarily. does that sound too extreme?

Remember muscle is denser and weighs more than fat. You will lose bodyfat and not weight. It's the miracle of an active body. Those calores are way to low for anyone but a coma patient to survive on and then they will look like crap. Don't do it to yourself.

oh no fear of that. I like food waaaaaay to much to cut anything but the bare minimum out.... :-)

I think that calculator may be very misleading for some though. I nearly freaked when i saw it!

There is no way you want to be trying to lose 2.2 pounds per week with those stats. Get your nutrition in order (post it hee for feedback), lift heavy, and do moderate cardio and you will achieve a body recomposition -- that is, lose fat and gain muscle. If you lose weight at this point, you are likely to just lose muscle, which will only make you look bigger.

All advice is taken on board and digested so thanks to anyone who contributes, i appreciate it.

I've weight trained for years and I train heavy. I already leg press 100kg (thats 220 lbs right?) and i'm working up.and the last time I picked up less than a 17lb dumbell was when I had a shoulder injury. I'm not some eating disorder chick trying to emulate Paris Hilton I promise!

I have plenty of lean muscle mass and i think i'm pretty strong (or maybe you guys think i'm a sissy from what i mentioned above i dunno what's classified as a reasonable amount :-). last year i had a great muscular and healthy figure and was not classified as skinny in any sense of the word. i just had a flat stomacvh and no love handles! I'm gonna find a photo of me at the moment then you'll see - right now I can grab two fistfuls of fat from my stomach, and if i had bigger fists they'd still be full.

I'm only aiming for 16 percent BF to start and then i'll reasses. I just need to cut. I'm happy with my strength progress. I'm just confused as to what calorie intake i need to cut BF

I attached a link to a site that has some pretty good info on the basics and how you can calculate appropriate cal intake.

http://www.stumptuous.com/cms/displayarticle.php?aid=29

I also suggest, if you haven't done so already, to read the stickies in the nutrition forum (i.e. pre/PWO nutrition, debunking bb myths are a couple with great info.) You may also want to look into keto diet, it is a very effective way of losing bf while sparing muscle and it is a SAFE way to diet. There is a dedication keto section in the nutrition forum (link at the very top) that has great info about keto diet.

Once you've read up and have a plan of action you can post more specific ?'s for the very helpful ladies here to help you. (i.e. once you've come up with a specific meal plan you can post and get input)

Anyway, best of luck

The maximum you should lose per week is 1% of total body mass, so at 122 lbs, that would be 1.2 lbs a week = 3500*1.2 caloric deficit = 4200 weekly/7 = 600 daily.

I also recommend not going below 12Xbodyweight for cutting.
