Not a dress rehersal
I just happened upon this site today, and have spent an hour feeling my way around. What an incredible group of people here. So many powerful physiques, so many inspirational stories. It's awesome to find a place with dedicated like-minded people. Congratulations to all of you. You've decided not to surrender, you've dedicated yourselves to improving and each of you knows that it is every bit as much mental and spiritual as it is hard physical discipline. You never actually wake up one day and say "ok, I'm perfect"...it's a way of life.
I spent the first 41 years of my life as a "wanna-be". Always working around the edges of success, doing just enough to look decent. I guess I was waiting for the starting gun. I had been to the bottom of a lot of bottles, in search of a hiding place. Then I found a lady who changed my life one little piece at a time. Not by telling me what to do, but by showing me what I could be...by believing in me when I didn't. I've been working my way back from the dead. I'm nobody's hero, but I will not surrender this time - two short months of hard work have gotten me convinced that at 43 I've still got the fire in my belly.
I look forward to being inspired and hopefully lifting others here up too.

A great read. Welcome, albeit from another newbie. I've felt very welcomed here in the few days I've been on. And, I have to say, I've been on other forums related to other interests that have been very clique-y.
Thanks to everyone for the inspiration!

These people keep me going.

That's an inspiring intro Greystoke. Things have changed a lot in the last 10-20 years havent they. When we were kids, 40 really 'was' over the hill.....literally and figuratively. People looked like **** by 40 and whatever they did for exercise earlier in life, almost no one was still doing it at 40, let alone starting anew. Back then, you just sort of accepted that you had had your run and now it was time to be middle aged and lame.
But look around now, the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, nothing is the way it used to be. 70+ year old people routinely running marathons and no one raises an eye anymore. Competitive powerlifters in their 50s and 60s. Single Moms in their 40s who blow away girls half their age. 24 hour gyms. All the free info available on BB.com that condenses a 10 year learning curve into a few nights reading.
It's all good and it's getting better. So welcome aboard!

Yet, we have a rampant morbid obesity pandemic, kids are getting arthritis, bad joints, diabetes, etc. Go figure. The current generation has a lower life expectancy than ours. Does this mean the pendulum is swinging back the other way, and with a vengeance? Meaning we are getting in shape, but our parents didn't and now our kids won't? Scary. Maybe they will follow our lead. I'm a year into my own battle now.
Anyhow, not to steal the thread with my rant. Welcome, Greystroke. Can't think of a decent Tarzan line except "Him 'Cheetah'."

Hello and welcome! The folks here have helped me a ton and have said it before and will say it again, these people here get me motivated and come here pretty much everyday. I have tried programs before but they turned out to be fads for me and this time it seems to be the real thing and for that I want to thank you all!
