Time Goes by Way to Fast
when i was in like 1st and 2nd grade it seemed like the school yr took forever and vacations lasted really long. The older ive become it seems like school, vacations, weeks, ,months go by super fast. Why is it that the older you get it seems time goes by faster?

let's change it then:
time must go by slower when we age instead of faster.

Here's my guess... When you're little you have a school year.. then you get older and they break classes up into semesters and quarters so it makes it seem like it's going by faster. Then when you get a full time job your stuck there all day and then when you get home you've got more stuff you need to do. So you're just busy all the time and it flies by.

time definitely seems to go by really fast.
i remember reading about something like it seems like it goes by faster because as you get older stuff like that becomes a smaller fraction of your life.
For example:
let's say your 5 years old and had 1 year of school. that's 1/5 of your life, it's a pretty big chunk.
when your 20 and have had 1 year of school.... it's 1/20th of your life, fairly small.
it's kind of hard to explain and it's not my "theory"... it's also been like a couple years since i read whatever it was that i got that from, i think it's pretty cool though and makes a lot of sense.

As adults we have more responsibilties and more thoughts occupying us this gives the impression that time is moving faster. As children we were simple with few thoughts and and generally oblivious to time.

no sh*t, I get depressed thinking I am 24 and have been out of college for more than two years. I wanna go back! I feel like I was just a freshman last week man. Time goes way to fast...

The psychological explanation is this: Humans, by nature, pay attention to novel stimuli. Novel stimuli go through effortful processing (you have to think about it to get it, like learning to drive), while old stimuli go through automatic processing (driving from home to work after you've done it a thousand times). As you age, less things are new. You take things for granted and just want to get to the end of the day. You can distract your consciousness with daydreams and abstract thoughts, where children always walk around with their eyes wide open. If you're heavily distracted by something else, you won't think about the time going by, and you'll look up and hours will be gone. That, and you have more to keep you busy (like work), which will also distract your attention.
