plasma336 is on a distinguished road. (+10)
All sorts of lost. Looking for advise.

Hey guys,
I've been lurking around here for the last 3 or 4 months and been wanting to make some changes in my life. Right now I'm wanting to cut down, BIG time. I've been reading a bunch of sections of the forums to somewhere around 15 pages back, and have done some searching as well, but am still kind of lost as to where I should start. I'll start by giving you a bit of backround about my body over the last serveral years:

When I was 15-16 I was not really execising at all. I had recently stopped playing tennis and had finished all my middle school sports and wanted to take some time off. But I didnt really watch what I ate or anyting so I gained weight, got up to about 255.

I went to an outward bound time program for about 50 days. We hiked 5 days a week, sometimes 20 miles a day. When I got out of there I was at 235, but looked alot leaner then that due to all the mass I put on my legs.

From there I went to boarding school at 17, which is when I first started lifting. I was there for a total of eight months, didnt really diet, but really didnt eat all that much (I know thats not good) because the food was so intolerable. In the end I came out at 205, I was looking really really lean.

Lastly I went to another boarding school (Military) at 18. I went in at about 220-225 which for my size is fairly average looking. Military school was tough as hell physically, the food was not particularly healthy, but with all of the pysical activity and my age it didnt matter too much. At the end of my 9-10 month there I came out at 275 looking friking jacked. I REALLY wish I had started cutting when I got out. I reached 275 at about Jan of 03 and plateued from there size wise, and was at 255 before I came home for turkey day that year.

Now I'm 22. I was able to maintain my weight of 275 pretty well til I turned 21, I was almost always with in 275 give or take 6-7 pounds. Then I discovered alcohol and drank all the time for all the wrong reasons for close to a year. I have since given that up and now only drink socially with my friends once every 2-3 weeks, granted its still not good for me, but I am still young and a little recless. Anyways after all my drinking and not eating well I'm sitting at around 315 and HATING it.

Judging from the past I think that I can get fairly rapid transformations out of my body when you consider the fact that I have never dieted in my life. At this point I would like to bulk parts of my body, but I think that its best that I lean down first. Once I start working out again coupled with dieting I think I could lean down real fast. As of now I'm thinking of a Keto diet, from what I've read on the site alot of people have experienced good results from that. Another reason I'm thinking Keto is because my current eating habbits of not watching what I eat need to change. Keto seems like a diet that I could live with as more of a lifestyle change as opposed to a cycle.

As far as working out goes, I will be working out at home. My parents have an old stairmaster laying around at their house that I'm planning on jacking from them. And I have a Hoist G5 that I will be using for toning and targeting muscle groups after cardio. From what I have read in the past, if you want to lean and tone you should do cardio then lift, what do you guys think? I dont really care for cardio so right now my plan is to lift for a half hour, do cardio for fifteen minutes, and then repeat this one more time. Does this sound like a good idea? Right now all I really want to do is lean down, I know from the past that bulking is the last of my worries, so I'd rather forcus on cutting and mostly getting rid of my disgusting gut that I now have.

I'm not sure what I want to look like in the end right now so I dont really have an end goal. I dont really want to be a body builder and I dont want to get too bulky. As I sit now I have a 40-42 inch waist, a 48 inch chest, and about 18-19 inch biceps and huge legs (havent measured them). I guess what I want is to maintain my chest size, which will go down some in cutting. Get my waist to a 36-38 inch range, and try and get that V-look going (lats). From there maybe get my arms a bit bigger, but my real focus is deffenition there. Would a 48 inch chest and a 36-38 inch waist not look proportaional? I'm trying to set some goals so I'm just wondering. Thanks in advance to anyone that can give me any pointers.

I believe the best approach to fat loss is HIIT cardio, a great diet plan, patients, and tons of dedication--NO cheats ever! (I do not claim I can do it)

The techniques pros use precontest is a great way to shed fat; I am confused as to why there are still 100s of new fad diets every year when obviously the pre-contest bodybuilder approach works very well.

here is some info to give you better ideas regarding how to tackle the weight loss goal:
