Where to start?
Well.
I'm 17 years old. I weigh ~190 lbs and about 5ft. 11in. I don't have body fat %s and exact measurements of the other basics, but I will soon. I'm guessing I'm at around 25% body fat. I'm going through a pretty rough part of my life right now (chronic depression for ~8 years, marijuana addiction (clean for 2 days now), and my own mother depressed and slowly becoming an alcoholic) and I've read hundreds, if not thousands, of articles/people say that exercise is the #1 thing to comfort and relieve stress. So here I am.
Anyway, I'm going to soon have a gym membership, and I want to focus on something, mainly my body and health, to keep my mind off of everything else. I'm wondering where to start and what to do. I don't think I'll go full on with a nutritional plan, as I don't really eat unhealthy now. I usually have a bowl of cereal in the morning, a bowl/package of ramen noodles for lunch with a diet caffeine free soda (sometimes water), and then usually some sort of meat w/ a glass of milk at dinner time.
So, where do I start to lose my body fat? I'm a competitive bowler (up to 6 days a week) so I believe my arms are rather strong (or decent to me anyway haha), although besides that, I'm incredibly inactive.
Is it an absolute necessity to eat directly before/after working out, even if you're only doing so for say an hour or so of light lifting/exercise? I understand I can't just go exercise for a couple hours and not eaten anything since the day before, or what not, but basically I guess I'm asking can I go work out after I get out of school and/or work and be OK? If so, what should I focus on?
I apologize for the length and my likely ignorance on the subject, and I know there are plenty of articles here for me to read, which I will, but which I just don't have the time to right now, so I'm looking for a straight answer here.
Thanks so much.
