It sucks that Triple H got injured fairly early into this run.
It would have been interesting to see where they would have went with it.

it was leading to a two man power trip v y2j and benoit feud... which i do believe, would have been incredibly beneficial to y2j and benoit and launched them into credible main event status well before the wcw invasion or brand split where jericho won his undisputed titles and benoit won his belt.
it was refreshing, and wwe were heading in the right direction using those two to bring some talent up from mid card to main event levels. now if benoit and y2j beat austin and triple h, then that win over them certainly wouldve meant something, especially in the context of the time and angle.
this is the type of storyline and build up wwe needs to bring its new guys to the forefront... none of this, "if the undertaker loses it should be to a new guy so the new guy gets a rub" or "streaks should be ended by the new guys so they can get the most out of it" or "the old guys should be putting over new talent all the time".
its all about context and timing. thats how the longest term superstars get over, and stay over. wwe knows this, but is getting desperate to make new names and new stars now, that theyre probably going against their better judgement of waiting for the right time, and just throwing things against the wall hoping something will stick.
