O'reilly is so ...simple minded it's scary. But, it's also quite common. There are a number of people who like to simplify everything into "right/wrong" "good/evil" boxes for convenient mental categorization and processing. But that of course solves nothing. If one actually wants to discover why the Fort Hood shooter did what he did, you have to dig deeper.
Even for those most patriotic amongst us, you can't say America is the purest, most innocent, nation of perfection and righteousness without being completely naive and in denial. And to point out America's flaws cannot mean you HATE HATE HATE this nation as some unpatriotic, treasonous, back stabbing "liberal" loon or "terrorist sympathizer".
If FOX or any media source, or any person really WANTED to find out WHY this man flipped out, they would extensively research and report on the following:
1. What aspects of Islam or fundamentalist Islam can be or are being radicalized to the point where they encourage violence? How did this happen and what is the Muslim world doing about it (or going to do about it)?
2. What are ALL of the major perspectives on the Afgan/Iraq wars? What about these wars would be offensive/abrasive to an American born Muslim?
3. What is the culture like in America and on military bases concerning Muslims, especially post 9/11? How much harassment is there and how bad has it gotten?
4. If this man had a history of showing anger/disapproval towards America's involvement in these wars, and had made aggressive/controversial comments before as well as showed great reluctance to go to Afghanistan or Iraq, why was he deployed? Who made that decision and why wasn't he more thoroughly evaluated?
5. We've heard vague reports of crimes and misdeeds committed by Blackwater employees in Iraq. What other misdeeds have occurred, how prevalent is it, and if these deeds are motivated by hatred, racism, hatred towards Islam etc. what is the US military doing about it? For example, if some of the stories these men would tell this shooter were of raping little girls or shooting pregnant women for fun or forcing Muslim men to have sex with each other, why would we think he wouldn't harbor strong angry feelings about that? Why would such acts be tolerated amongst our officers in the Armed Forces? I highly doubt Abu Grahib was the only place of abuse.
The point is, if you want to know something you go out and investigate WHY. You don't sit proudly and arrogantly and spew your emotional opinion based on limited information and your own biases like O'reilly and most of our media does today.
INVESTIGATE!!
DO PROPER REPORTING!!
