Rant: Should parents be allowed to use your shower? (serious)
Should parents be allowed to use your shower?
My dad repeatedly uses my shower (recurring for the past year) so i took a stand tonight and asked him to use his own shower in his room. He says cause it's cold in there and he just took a **** and it smells. Should my dad (I'm 19) at least respect my demand (even though I live under his roof) and not use my shower when I ask him nicely?
Please don't play the "STFU you live under his roof" card because I understand all that. I respect my elders but was just wondering if there was something wrong with me asking him to use his own shower.
Any comments that don't contribute to this thread will be negged and reported.
Cliff Notes:
-Dad took a **** in his restroom
-Decides to use my shower b/c it smells and is cold in his.
-Should I be allowed to ask him to use his own shower w/ respect to him paying the bills, utilities, etc.

Well, all I can think to say is move out and buy your own shower, it is his house. I know your 19 and all but I think you will feel a little different when you have a kid under your roof someday. My dad was real old school. If I would have ever asked him to use his own shower he would have tossed me right through the window, walked outside and kicked my @ss right off the planet.

My parents keep their formal clothing in my closet and I'm fine with it. They are your parents ok?

I always put a physical fear into my parents which kept them out of my part of the house. You might want to threaten him a little, like ask him if he wants to fight for the shower.
(not serious)

same thing with me... when i was living at home my parents did use my toilet. i did not mind at all and definitely i would not even dare ask them to use their own toilet. its just a toilet if you are bothered with the smell or something buy one of those effective air refreshners, you can also buy one of those toilet seat wipes if you dont feel comfortable using it after your parents did.
nothing personal, but i dont think you have the right to tell your parents whether to use your toilet or not because technically speaking it is their toilet they are letting you use it.

If you ask your dad politely maybe he will use his own shower.

its his house, he can do whatever he wants.
I definitely understand that parents need to respect their son's privacy and such, but if he wants to use your shower that he owns then thats his right.
But i would try asking him, maybe he will stop. Either that or he will start ****ting in your bathroom and showering in his...its your choice.

Unless you're paying rent, it's not "your" shower
If you're that seriously fixated on having your own space, then it's time to move out. But if you're going to take advantage of still living at home, then you have to accept the drawbacks as well. . .

As long as he's not leaving pubes in the drain or terdz in the john, I see nothing wrong with him using your bathroom.

unless you were planning to shower at that moment, get over it
how many times do you think you inconvenienced them as a child?

You somehow think you own the shower that is attached to the room that you stay in, yet your dad owns and probably pays for out of his pocket.
You know, he could just kick your ass out.

Until I became a parent I had no idea how much I inconvenienced my parents. But since I have three kids now, I have a new respect for what my parents went through raising three of their own.
If my child ever asked me to use a different shower, that's when it would seize being "his" shower.
To the OP, why don't you want him using "your" shower?

Why the **** does it matter dude? Are you that frikin' obnoxious that you are going to bother your Dad like that? If he's wasting all your hot water, then tell him to take quicker showers or take them after you, that's at least reasonable. But what is the reason for you not wanting him there? The principle that it's "your" shower? Because, sorry to disappoint you, but that's a bad reason. Is he making the bathroom really messy and gross? If that's the case, then tell him to clean up after himself, again, that's fair to ask of him.
However, what is not fair to ask is to leave for no reason other than you don't want him there.
If he's not getting in the way, i.e. taking a shower while you want to take one and making you late, taking the hot water, or leaving a mess, then what's the problem?
It's his house and if he wanted he could simply make you use his shower and switch it, cuz guess what? They are both his.
Btw, a lot of people, including myself, have only one shower for the whole family, so stopping whining like a little baby.

Well, if you understand that, then yes.. there is something wrong with telling him where he can and cannot shower.
Only solution that comes to my mind - start paying your dad rent, even if it's just $50 or whatever. THEN you can start calling the shots

Dude I hope you take a shower in the gym...
At least you KNOW the person who's taking a shower, in *your* shower. I have 3 brothers and a sister, when we were living at home we ALL had to share the same shower. At least your sister or mom ain't coming in and shaving their legs in your shower or something, lol.

And be the one of the first ones in the shower so you don't run out of hot water.
