Could Oxygen depletion of planet earth ever happen?
I know this might be a little dumb but has anyone ever thought of oxygen depletion? With us cutting down more and more trees every year. What if we get a point where we are using more oxygen than the earth can replace? We could all suffocate to death.

We wouldn't get to that point because there will be an invention called synthetic photosynthesis and we won't have to worry about buying Christmas trees anymore.

Wasting water is becoming an even bigger issue, especially up in Queensland.

Trees actually use more oxygen than they produce. Our oxygen actually comes from lifeforms within the ocean. The single largest producer of oxygen are microscopic diatoms.

But contamination of the world's air supply from nuclear fallout isn't good either.

Wouldn't happen, plus the human being is so amazing that we wood probably evolve to need less and less oxygen before that point actually comes IMO. We do need to stop cutting down trees though.

sorry dude, i'm not sure if we can evolve to "need less oxygen". certain body processes would have to be shut down, tu rned off, or removed

The rate at which trees are being cut down....sure the oxygen will be depleted.

Trees and plants are just carbon sinks. If you have less trees and plants you have more CO2 in atmosphere and less O2. But plants also grow quicker in a CO2 rich environment, so it all sorta just balances out.

Like in SpaceBalls when they used that vacum ship to suck up all the planet's air?

Unless you continually cut them down to build houses that use fossil fuel to heat them.

The weird thing is, it only becomes a problem if you are drilling oil out of the ground and using it for fuel or burning garbage. As long as society is using trees and oil for durable goods and landfilling their garbage they still serve their purpose as carbon sinks.

Exactly what I was going to say except for the trees using more oxygen part.
