Last night i got HUSTLED by an OLD GUY
Kinda Colin, cliffnote at bottom
ya, so me and my friend was at this pool hall playing some pool. Now i consider myself a pretty good player, being able to beat about 85% of ppl from the pool hall. Then about 10 mins playing, this old dude walked up to me, dressed in a nice shirt, a hat and walking weirdly as if he's really tired.
He came up to me and asked: "hey young man, wanna play me for $5?"
I said: "well, can i play with my friend first? then i'll play you"
He goes: "ok, i'll be playing with these guys while i wait"
While i was playing with my buddy, occasionally i took a glimpse at the old guy's table, and from what i see, he looks like a beginner to lower intermediate level. He lost that game he was playing.
Now im thinking to myself, "ok this guy kinda suk, i can take him on, it's gonna be easy $5."
So i invite him over to play for $5 a game. We played , and I easilly beat him . he then handed me $5, and said to me, "you're nice,Let's play again, it's my payday today so i can afford some more games. How about it, let's play for $10 a game."
I thought to myself, "ok , either this guy is insane or he's really loaded, this could be my night."
For some reason, without thinking much, i told him "you're on, $10 it is!"
So I racked it up, and break, and get the game going. I looked at the old guy's face and i was like WTF? His posture improved , his eyes were full of spirit and concentration, and from his backpack (i did not noticed) he took out a stick, i swear this came straight out of an episode of "The fresh prince of bel air" . I missed a shot, and it's the old guy's turn, this guy ****ING RUN the whole table and won before you can say Wat-the-fudge.
Needless to say, i lost and that was my first experience with a pool hall hustler. I got OWNED
CLIFFNOTE:
I went to play pool with buddy
Old guy walks up to challenge me to play for $5
I played and won
He then wanted to play for $10, I agreed
All of sudden he turned into Uncle Phil
I lost $10, learned my lesson.
EDITS: after many of your questions, after I won$5 off him, I told him I need to leave soon because I ran out of money to pay for the table, that's why he showed his real self that early and only hustled me $5. We were playing 8-ball Last Pocket.

OP did you quit or did the old man? I would have played him a third game. Was it 9 ball you were playing?

I think it is much easier running a table on 8 ball though many will disagree, at least you know for next time. Don't stop playing for money, only reason that keeps me coming back to the game. Spent too much on my old Predator 3K7 back in the day.
