Fat woman stuck in cave!

"CAPE TOWN (AFP) - An overweight woman got stuck in a well-known South African cave for nearly twelve hours on New Year's Day, trapping 23 others in the process.

The woman was stuck inside the "Tunnel of Love" shortly after noon and was freed with the help of liquid paraffin and a pulley around 11:30 pm (2130 GMT), said Hein Gerstner, manager of the Cango Caves in the Western Cape.

"She was really quite a large woman," he told AFP Tuesday. "She was forewarned at the ticket office and by the guide that she might have difficulty on the tour, but she insisted on going along."

Rescuers from two nearby towns and a private ambulance service were called in to help.

"We used liquid paraffin to grease the surface area and used a pulley to lift her," said Gerstner. "She was eventually carried out on a stretcher."

Twenty-three other people trapped in another tunnel behind the woman were given blankets, water, chocolate bars and ablution buckets during the rescue effort."

Corpulent woman corners 23 in cave

RESCUERS battled for 10 hours at the Cango Caves near Oudtshoorn to free an overweight woman who became stuck in a narrow passage, trapping 23 other tourists in the caves.

“We were back in operation this morning,” said cave manager Hein Gerstner yesterday.

There was no damage to the caves as no drilling or cutting was needed to rescue the woman, who got stuck on Monday.

“There was permission granted to drill or to cut rock in a worst case scenario.

“Look, it would have been a last resort.”

Gerstner said the woman was eventually freed using rock climbing equipment and liquid paraffin.

The woman slipped and fell and ended up wedged tight. “Her leg had folded under her and she could not stand up.

“If she had landed straight up on both legs there would have not been any trouble.”

Twenty-three other people were trapped, unable to get past the stuck woman.

Gerstner said staff were used to people getting stuck at the Cango Caves.

“We believe what goes in, must come out again.

“People get stuck all the time – that’s one of the unfortunate things that happens, it’s part of the adventure.”

The woman had been warned she was not suited for the route.

“She was told at the ticket office that she was too big to take part in the specific section. (But) her husband insisted she should take part in
the adventure.”

Gerstner said the guide also told the woman, when she reached the tunnels, that she should reconsider. However, visitors became annoyed if stopped from entering the caves.

Monday’s rescue operation involved a private ambulance service, the ambulance teams of Oudtshoorn and George, as well as a rescue helicopter carrying a rescue co-ordinator.

im sorry if im sounding a bit cruel. actually no im not. just thinking about being stuck behind that fat piece of **** when they warned her not to go is making me mad. if it was me i wouldnt have cared if i hurt physically and emotionally. i would have cussed her out in front of everyone until she cried hysterically and then i would drop kick the back of her fat head ]until she got knocked loose. besides the fact that she is morbidly obese she made her weight problem everyone elses problem and thats whats pissing me off the most.
