actually, right before I hit a lift, I try not to stare at, look at or even think about the weight, or the amount of plates on the bar. I focus all of my energy on the bar and visualize my form. But, I've been in meets, where I've seen guys, bash their forehead against the bar right before their squat, of course, you always see someone hit themselves in the head with their hands or their fist (psyching themselves up)....and I acually saw one guy warming up with karate kicks one time (it seemed like he spent an hour doing some type of roundhouse kick before the meet started). I asked him about it after the meet...he said it helped him take his mind off of his lifts.
