Post Depression and pain meds

I think I'm feeling really low due to my pain meds. Just switched from Percot to Lortab. I have to take about 3 but I'm considering stoping due to the reaction. Oh yea by the way I ripped my pec, thats why I'm on the meds. What do you think?

Stop taking them if you feel you can handle the pain I guess. I've had my fair share of pain pills and while they never seemed to worsen my depression they do start becoming addictive. If I had some now I would probably take them.

Hey Bro yea it tore at the tendon muscle connection. My operation was on the 14th so like one week ago. You may be right about the situational depression. I feel like I'm waisting away. havent lost size yet but DOC says no resistance training for 4 month. I think in about 1 more week I'm starting back on some very light isolating exercises (nothing for the pecs though)

ooo..becareful man. that pec moves and flexes a little when u move u just dont notice it. it can really aggravate or damage the repair. met another guy who slipped in the shower and took of his sling. he slipped a little and caught himself w/ the same arm and re-tore the pec. He cant find a surgeon that wants to touch it. i got the same feeling man. im 7 weeks postop now. started therapy. cant go back to work or gym untill April 2. its definately a tough injury to deal w/ physically and mentally. i have no luck yet finding IGF-1 but u should try it out if u can. It really can help the recovery.

thats some serious ****, but i agree i think it is situational depression, i mean look at your physique its incredible, you prob cant hit the weights for a while and thats whats getting to you, i remember when i got diagnosed with mono and they told me no lifting for 3months and i felt like ****, but i ended up liftign the next week, so i lucked out, but good luck with your recovery and hope everything goes well.

ps- How did u tear it?

I think you should use this as an opportunity to rest and relax your body, and not worry about working out around your injury. It just isn't worth the risk.

As for your depression, anyone would be depressed dealing with this sort of injury. I don't think it is the pain pills, I think it is that you feel a real need to exercise -- hence the inkling to work out again several weeks after a major surgery.

Take a break for awhile. Make walking your only workout. You deserve a break.

Yea prob right about training to soon. I guess I can stay at bay for now. It just seem that when I take my Percot not only do you not think about the pain. It just seem that evertying is OK. Just kind of worried I think I like it to much......

I took percocet for a knee surgery. I know what you mean about dependency, you always think you need it. What worked for me was 2-3 sleepless nights because of not taking it then the 4th day I was so tired and the pain had gone down anyway. It sucks. I don't think depression was directly contributed to the meds. I think if you're an active guy, you just get that way because all you can think about it what your missing out on.

Its not the meds making you depressed man, its most definately the situation and the pain. I hurt my back a few year ago and in the process leading up to surgery this year I was put on anti-depressants when I was going through pain management. I was put on welbutrin and I **** you not the next day I was walking around with a **** eating grin on my face and quit smoking. I was taking welbutrin for about a year until today when I went to the doctor because my back is bothering me again. The pain is counteracting my welbutrin so I got put on cymbalta today and scheduled for another MRI to check the screws and rod in my back. Tell your doctor that your feeling depressed and I promise you they will give you something to help. I fought depression for the past 3 years and still do till this day and prob will for good bit of my future. I played sports for most of my life, especially soccer which I loved and I am not even supposed to run anymore so being stuck where I cant go out and be my old self didnt help the situation either. No need in making yourself suffer more, so talk to the doc, get something to help you and you will feel much much better!
