A Legend Passes R.I.P. Reg Park!
I am immensely saddened to report that the Legendary Reg Park passed today. Have just received the following text msg from Matthew Haldenby (Giant of SA Gladiators).
"The great and Legendary Reg Park passed today. The pioneer and icon of the sport we hold so dear was undeniably the largest and most unforgetable personality I and so many more were blessed to have as a mentor and friend. We all who were touched by his greatness and caring will always hold his memory and legacy close to our hearts. Matt"
I had the honour and pleasure of meeting Reg while writing for M magazine in South Africa, he had a way of taking anyone under his wing and spoke to us with a fatherly caring. I still regularly train with movements shown to me by Reg that have improved my physique immeasurably.
May his dear departed soul rest in peace.

Another legend passes. I wish pro bodybuilding would get back to what guys like Reg Park, Steve Reeves, Mickey Hargitay et al. stood for and accomplished. Hey, if there's a weightlifting Heaven I can just imagine the training sessions going on now with these guys.

Condolences to Reg's family...may he rest in peace. Farewell brother of steel!
Here's an article I found with a bit of info about his death:
http://www.sabcnews.com/south_africa...159715,00.html
"Condolences pour in for bodybuilding legend
November 22, 2007, 18:15
Condolences from all around the world are pouring in for international bodybuilding legend Reg Park who died in Jo'burg at the age of 79. He had been suffering from skin cancer.
His son Jon Jon said his father had suffered with the debilitating illness for eight months but had accepted that he was going to die.
Parks said the family had been overwhelmed with condolences and tributes to the Mr Universe winner and finalist.
Parks says his father had never compromised his beliefs, morals or principals and had refused to take steroids even when they became prevalent in the bodybuilding fraternity.
Jon Jon said Parks was passionate about everything he did and never discriminated against anyone he spent time training in the gym with.
He was Born in England and won many bodybuilding competitions during his career, including the titles of Mr Britain, Best Developed Athlete in America, Mr Europe and Mr Universe title in 1951. His funeral service will be held in Morningside on Sunday. - Sapa"

Reg was a great bodybuilder and an even greater man. He was an inspiration in the truest sense of the word. He blazed the trail for modern bodybuilding, along with Steeve Reeves and now he again has shown us the way, this time how to make the transition to the next world with class and dignity. Be at Peace Reg.

Reg Park was a great bber
but not natural. And I don't think Reeves was either later in his career. Most of these guys were just on test, however, to achieve size. Later on I believe Park used other substances.
