i know, i have a love/hate relationship when it comes to food. i'm trying to keep a better mindset with it though, i attempted to stop counting calories on weekends but that failed. i'm working on it though.

I said last week that it seems like I get more cut the week following a binge and I take pictures every friday to make sure its not just in my head and here are some picture. I only have one problem I didnt gain at all this week Im looking to bulk so it kinda sucked but at least I didn't lose any weight. first is from the 20th and second is from yesterday. As for my binge last Sat. I ate
a 14oz ribeye
a large baked potato
a large salad with low fat dressing
1 take five mcflurry
1 Mcdonalds ice cream cone
2 pb&j sandwiches
2 bowls reeses puffs w/ skim milk
1 bowl smart start w/ skim milk
1 baby ruth candy bar
1 med sized bowl of cookies and cream ice cream w/ butterscotch topping
1 ham and cheese sandwich
did all of this in about a three hour span.
I can't explain it what do you think?? I really need help!!!

OK guys is there any way to correct the ED thing? I think I start to develop this kind of condition where every food intake is calculated and you feel guilty about eating the bad stuff, or even the healthy stuff if it doesn't fit into your diet.
so?

binging hmm...
just allow yourself room in your diet on normal days for "non clean" foods... sheesh.
binging is not healthy. there is no need at all for "cheat" days...taht **** is mental.

Anybody know how to help me?
Weekdays, my diet is acceptable. Weekends, I seem to have no control.
I wake up, start eating and have big problems stopping-- and my will power is waning. (this goes for working out too- I still do, but not as regularly as I used to.) I dont eat meals. I just eat. all. the. time.
This creates issues for me. To avoid going over the cal limit for the day, I eat a lot of low-cal, high volume foods, but I just make myself too full. It's like I'm never satisfied.
I'm not fat-- yet. lol.
Why dont I eat normal meals like normal people? I feel like I can't eat normal things this way.
Its really ****ing with my life, and I don't know how to get a handle on myself.
Can anyone help me? thanks.

Hmm on the weekends make sure you eat enough calories and do something you enjoy. This will help take your mind off of things so your not always thinking of food.

When you say 'acceptable', what do you mean? Severe restriction, for example, is not acceptable. So, does your caloric intake match your caloric output and your goals? Furthermore, is there a difference between the foods you eat during the week and foods that you eat at the weekends?
What do you do during the weekends? If you are just lazing around, that is contributing a lot to your problem. You need to find stuff to do. Get out of the house. NOT binging (if you truly binge) is a question of will power and how you feel about yourself, but getting away from the source of the food and distacting yourself helps a lot.
It's usuall WAY easier to control your food intake during the week because you have a structure and a routine to follow (e.g. school, work, etc). Since the weekend is, for most people, a break in the routine, it can also be easier to eat more food than normal. But, remember that, if you are undereating during the week, you may actually NEED those additional calories during the weekend to tide you over the coming week. You need to look at your WEEKLY diet to try to resolve this.

Just read your article Pete. Hreat read and you are definitely an inspiration for anyone who has a problem like this. I know I've battled through alot of issues with ED's after dieting to lose a lot of weight but I seem to have things more controlled now than I have in a long time.

Life is awesome. I'm mad busy and, since this thread was unlocked (or unstickied or whatever ), I haven't been looking at it so much. If it was still stickied, I'd probably still look in every day. It used to be the first thread I looked at.
At the moment, I am working with two kids, both 12 years old, male, and both suffering from ED. The results are so rewarding for me. It's truly great to see these kids come back from where they are and avoid getting to where I got. And, all it takes are words and patience. Even to see a smile on their faces is progress.
All my jobs (engineering, personal training, helping people with ED and, to a lesser degree, modelling) are going really well. Since my recovery, people have tremendous confidence in me. When I was sick, my phone never rang. I was ghost. Today, I have so many friends and colleagues that it's almost hard to make time for all of them. I socialise in some way every weekend. My family and friends are the most important elements in my life.
At the moment, I am studying for the CSCS. The exam's in 3 weeks time. I'm flying from Ireland to Phoenix, Az to take the test and then I'm going to hook up with another member of this board for a few days before touring around Arizona and California. I'll be home for Christmas.
I wrote this, not to brag or just for the sake of it, but to let anyone with ED know that there is the potential to have a great life after you come through the condition.
How's life yourself??

No, I'm not restricting-- I eat plenty (though you make a very good point). I am a small girl, so my maintenance is perhaps restricting for you.
When I say 'acceptable', I mean structured, less likely to binge, I guess....I'm fairly sure I'm eating the right amount for my activity level and whatnot.
I think the real issue is my failing to plan, and also I need to do things on the weekend (like you said). That is the main thing, I think.
Tody I made more of an effort to plan my meals and I also had things to do, and it turned out to be a good day, meal-wise.
Thanks so much for your input-- I really appreciate it. I think you hit a lot of points that are very accurate. Thanks again!

While planning your meals might be a good and necessary option for you now, true freedom from ED is when you DON'T HAVE TO PLAN your meals. You eat for health, you don't judge the food you are eating (there's a place for everything), you are spontaneous and eat until you are satisfied, and you don't feel guilty about it either.
I guess that is down the line for you. I used meal planning when I needed it, but when I realised that I couldn't slot my life around my mealtimes, I changed and because spontaneous.

This is true-- I dont see myself not planning them in the near future. I honestly dont see myself eating the way you describe ever-- but who know what the future will bring. I have tried to become more sponteaneous, but I still counted, and then the bingeing started in. so, maybe there's hope, but i'm not going to push too hard for that.
While I do wish for "normal" eating, and a life where I don't constantly judge and think abut my food, I think I can be in an ok, healthy (body-wise) place at the moment-- like you said, perhaps the planning is necessary now-- and at least not restricting or bingeing.
When I leave home and am not in control of what and when I eat, I over-restrict fof fear that I'll suddenly "get fat", even though I KNOW that this is not true.
So I guess I'm just being redundant here, and affirming what you said, yet again. anyway. thanks for the idea that down the road I wont have to plan (im looking forwayd to it- at least part of me is).

new here, looking for advice
Hi all,
I just found this forum and wanted to check in. I am recovering from bulimia but am scared to death to gain weight. I had my second baby 6 mos ago and hate the way my body looks. I work out daily, but am scared to let go of an old eating disorder for fear of gaining weight. Any advice? I am willing to read books, take supplements, whatever. I did try counseling last year but didn't stick with it.
Thanks in advance and also, thanks for your honesty in your posts, it made it possible for me to be able to be honest as well.

I have found that you can read all the books in the world and it won't make a blind bit of a difference. You already know what you need to do. Reading more and more (I know this because I read them all) is just a way to procrastinate dealing with the condition, while at the same time convincing yourself that you are working towards recovery.
The greatest bit of advice I got from my therapist (and I would strongly recommend you resume your sessions with a therapist) was: "If you want to be recovered, act recovered".
Look at your baby. I'm sure you are going to nourish and care for your baby and do the best you can for him/her, right? Well, if that is the case, then why do you not allow the same kind of treatment for yourself?
When you say you are scared to let go of an old eating disorder, does that mean that you are still binging/purging?

im finally free!
yesterday and today may have been the two best days of my life....at least the best days of the past year. i stopped counting. i stopped worrying about my food. i stopped stressing over calories, focusing on how to to save calories and stopped planning and living for my next meal.
i worked out, ate what i wanted, and when i went out to eat with my family i ate what i wanted and wasnt stressed. I ate until i was full...i ate like A NORMAL PERSON! i even had some pie....(wow actual dessert )
ive realized now that at my age i just need to be living how i want to and not letting food control me. One meal wont make or break me. Its ok for me to enjoy eating pizza or a burger every now and then......like a normal kid!
i would like to encourage anyone battling an ed just to give normal life a try again. just think how free you used to be. Trust me its worth it!
As for my diet now....im not going to count anything...not even protein. im just going to keep working out and eat when im hungry. If that means slower gains then so be it....im just glad to have my life back!

Ok I'm bumping this for the following reason-
There are a couple people on this forum who are literally afraid to eat. You know who you are. My caloric restriction came from a very similar source, but i still ate **** i liked and enjoyed it, i just felt guilty and would eat less. And less. And less. But this is getting ridicilous. Kids afraid to eat? Wtf? Honestly this is the worst time too have a disorder, your hormones get ****ed and your growth is literally halted, maybe even permanently hampered. So just go get a burger (you can order it anyway you want), unwrap it, and shove it in your mouth. Wipe your mouth and repeat. Get a milkshake. Go play basketball with your friends. Lift hard. Just eat REAL (i mean real, wholesome, rich food, not bars, not shakes) REAL mother****ing food, and dont worry about it
