Is the intent of this contest primarilly fat-loss or fat-loss/ bodybuilding/ physique improvement? In other words- is the target audience for body builders looking to drop from 11% to 7% or is it for the more robust looking to go from %35 to %15? Or is it for a diversity of takers?
I did the OBF summer challenge and dropped 23 lbs. But since that contest ended in August I have had an avalanche of distractions. I only gained about 2 lbs back, but am disappointed I didn't keep the ball rolling down that hill.
I don't know if I want to put my name in the hat or just let someone else get the same opportunity. Seriously, anyone who is looking to lose weight. There is nothing quite so motivating as putting your half-naked picture online for anyone to see and judge. For the first-timer that is some serious pressure.
Good luck to all.

2008 contest..
Like I said before I am extremely hoping to be in this. I am 6'2" right now and I am at an all time high of 295 lbs. and scared to think after the holidays I will be over the 300 mark for the first time. I would love to be 260 again. I need something like this that has the embarrasment of posting horrible pics of myself for the world to see, and follow, and motivate me. I have done little contests and work and with friends, and family, but none would compare to this. Please consider me...........

I firmly believe that by helping each other we can all reach our dreams. I contact my friends here at minimum weekly to dish out encouragement or a kick in the butt. Ask any of them. They can vouch for my dedication.
I already post to my bodyspace multiple times a week and am usually here dishing out comments most days. I regularly update my profile and measurements. I even posted my first video of my 185lb bench. So proud. Personal best. The video was not really clear because it was taken with a cell phone camcorder. I am having another one take this weekend.
My goal would have to be one of body fat loss. I workout 5 to six days a week which has helped me maintain the muscle while burning the fat. My actual weight change is slow but the percentage of fat loss has been outstanding. Feel free to check out my bodyspace and ask any questions?

Well I don't necessarily plan on having THAT goal in mind, or that much to lose anyways, but I do plan on getting some good amount of muscle on this frame this off season, and I know that with that goal there is also the body fat that will come with it... now how much of that gets added who knows, I DO KNOW that I would like to keep it to a minimum but at the same time I know what its gonna take to get my physique where I want it to be kicking @$$ and taking names next spring on stage! I obviously know what it takes as far as hard work goes, as I've gotten to where I am at now in just about a year! With that being said, I think I should be picked

AGREEEEEEED! I think ALL physique changes should be considered and weighed the same, I mean wouldn't that goal be considered "the biggest loser" and I believe there is already a show about that

Yeah, but we're really wanting to help jumpstart people who are just getting started on their journey, who need the extra motivation and help, not necessarily the person dialing it in for a show, who already knows the ropes and has the experience. Yes, this year's contest will be a little different from last years. And while I do agree all transformations are worthwhile and are great to showcase, we're just hoping to help out those who need it the most, that's all.
I don't expect everyone to agree, of course, so flame on!!! (J/K, grrrrr.)

You should make a rule about steroids, clenbuterol, ephedrine, etc. Perhaps limit "usage" to what can be purchased on bodybuilding.com.

Application for contest
Hi there,
My name is Steve and I am from the Bay Area, California. I am blessed with a wonderful gorgeous wife and four awesomely talented beautiful children. I have been into fitness since high school and have had a passion for it ever since.
The past three years have been the toughest for me health wise. Already extremely busy with my family, I was diagnosed with plantar fasciaitis on my right foot, literally cutting out almost all my cardio after that. Then a year later, My left foot was diagnosed as well. Along the way my eating habits didn?t help at all either, causing a weight gain of over 50 lbs., 20lbs. alone these past four months.
I joined BB.com in May 2007 but have been a long time visitor to the sight. I honestly had not been keeping up on my Bodyspace since I had joined, but was still focused on transforming my body and life for my family. As you can tell by the large gap in time on my blogs, I had been gone for a while. I lost motivation for a lot of things during that time.
Today though is a huge turning point for me. As I logged on to BB.com, I came across this contest and was fired up immediately. I had not been this motivated for a while and believe I am ready for this challenge. I didn?t come across this by chance; it was for a reason. It is time for me to step up and prove to myself that I can do it and be the leader/role model to my kids and wife that God made me to be. Even with the ongoing foot problems, exhaustion and just recently slow growing lower back pain; I believe I will overcome these obstacles during this contest.
Why should I be considered for this contest? Well, who wouldn?t want to hear and see the testimony of a phenomenal life changing transformation that could inspire and encourage others for our upcoming generation of obesity. Wow that sounds prophetic.
Now I know there is much required, so I will have to prove myself these next few weeks with diligently updating my bodyspace. My major challenge is going to be time management, trying to stay disciplined with a busy family schedule. I am currently 5?9?, 285lbs and can?t wait to melt off the fat. Stay tuned for many updates and progress pics.
Thank you for considering me for this contest. You will not be disappointed. Be Blessed. FIT4C

We're seeking a handful of ultra-motivated BodySpace members to participate in the official 2008 BodySpace Transformation Contest. We'll be picking only 5 people this year to do 12-week, fat-loss transformations starting on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 and ending exactly on March 26, 2008.
This year, instead of everyone competing for one grand prize based upon the best overall transformation, this year it's all about meeting personal transformation goals. We're hoping to foster a sense of teamwork and a supportive environment (rather than a competitive one).
Since this is an online contest, the five people chosen must have some demonstrated online skillz, meaning that they already know how to use BodySpace, upload progress photos, use the workout tracker, as well as have used YouTube and a video camera before. The rules and terms of the contest require several online tasks be done on a set schedule, as outlined below. During the next several weeks, we'll be reviewing applicants' BodySpaces, looking specifically at blog posts, progress photos, and personal videos. If you wish to apply, but don't yet have an impressive BodySpace profile, please pimp it out as soon as possible.
RULES:
1) Similar to last year's group blog, each contestant will need to blog every other day (no more, no less) in the 2008 Transformation Contest group blog about his/her updates and experiences. Any additional blogging may be done in his/her own personal BodyBlog.
2) Each contestant must pick one main, measurable, realistic personal fat-loss goal, and work toward completing it over the full 12-week contest duration. Examples of personal fat-loss goals: drop from 185 lbs to 155 lbs; drop from 23% bodyfat to 15% bodyfat.
3) All contestants must maintain active and complete BodySpace accounts. They need to be model BodySpace members, using every applicable feature, and update their profiles regularly.
4) Before and after photos must be taken on the start and finish dates (as appropriate) with a newspaper to verify the date, and must be also displayed in the contestant's Progress Photos section.
5) All workouts must be tracked in the contestant's BodySpace Workout Tracker section, and all weekly progress photos must be uploaded into the contestant's Progress Photos section. Progress photos need to be uploaded every Tuesday without fail, this is non-negotiable. (Progress photos will be used in weekly update articles on Bodybuilding.com every Wednesday.)
6) All contestants must film one workout clip (and only one) each week and upload it via YouTube into the 2008 Transformation Contest blog every Tuesday without fail, this is also non-negotiable. (Workout video clips will be used in weekly update articles on Bodybuilding.com every Wednesday.) Any additional videos may be placed in the contestant's own personal BodyBlog or BodySpace profile.
7) Video footage must be uploaded providing proof of the weigh-in or bodyfat measurement both at the beginning of the contest and at the end of the contest.
If you have what it takes to whip yourself into shape and meet your personal fat-loss goal, sign up here in this thread to be considered! The five contestants will also be given front-page promotion on Bodybuilding.com, so you can anticipate some great recognition from the BodySpace community, and considerable publicity from being featured.
The group blog will be here:
http://blog.bodybuilding.com/Transform2008
and the 5 finalists will be emailed instructions on how to participate in the group blogging environment. Let the games begin! (The contest and the blogging offically starts on December 26, 2007. The final five contestants will be picked on December 15, 2007.)
Prizes and cash awards TBA.

Definitely the perfect person for this challenge! She is not only one of the most motivated people on here, she is also one who motivates others.

And while I do agree all transformations are worthwhile and are great to showcase, we're just hoping to help out those who need it the most, that's all.
I don't expect everyone to agree, of course, so flame on!!! (J/K, grrrrr.)

It seems that you are penalizing/removing oportunity for those people who have maintained good health.

Very nice contest this year, albeit slightly different from last year I really like the concept of helping people get started and stay motivated to change their lives.

I most definitely will be rooting for daretosoar!
She's SO motivated and motivating, and she encourages all her friends on Bodyspace to kick butt in the weight room each and every day.

I need something like this that has the embarrasment of posting horrible pics of myself for the world to see, and follow, and motivate me. I have done little contests and work and with friends, and family, but none would compare to this. Please consider me...........

I would love to be in the competition as I too recently started my fat-loss journey and have been going at it pretty strong for 2 months now and seen some good progress. Unfortunately...found out yesterday I have a small inguinal hernia and will need surgery in the coming weeks and probably 4-6 weeks of healing downtime...which throws me out of the competition window.
At any rate I vote for Daretosoar and best of luck to all of the other contestants.

I think this is the right approach- especially if the intent is not so much an individual competition but more of a team effort. In general when having a comp I think it is best to narrow it to people who are after similar goals. Fortunately in the comp I was in last summer everyone was encouraging toward all the other competitors. The more advanced bodybuilders (Baggy B, Sapper564 - props to those guys) were encouraging to those of us who are not on the same level.
This however is not always the case. I've seen competitions where the more advance bodybuilders completely ignore the beginners or condescend to them. I've also seen competitions where the beginners don't make a serious effort and don't respect the opportunity they are being given. It goes both ways, and as such I think it is best to have the competitions be for either one side or the other.
Right now the serious bodybuilders are frustrated they can't get into this comp, but just be patient. There are plenty of competitions coming up for serious bodybuilders, and then the "robust" beginners will have to sit by frustrated and watch.
