shoulder press, seated vs standing?
if I sit in a chair, upright bench, probably an 85degree angle if not closer to 90, I can do 65lb dumbbells.
if I stand or sit on a flat bench with no back, I can do maybe 40 or 45lbs at best.
my question is, whats going to be the better option? or option C if you have a better idea.

because when you have that back support you are using less muscles to control the movement. When you are not using the chair or the back support ou are using more stablizer muscles to keep the movement consistant. Both are very good as you shoul always be incorporating new exercises in your routine.

For bodybuilding, seated. It allows you to focus entirely on targeting the delts rather than involving the core and concentrating more on balance, etc.
I think it's pathetic how PTs roll out the swiss balls and get people doing one-arm presses for "putting on muscle mass while working your core." No one will convince me that performing some kind of circus trick with a dumbbell is going to do a better job of building muscle than lifting from a secure platform with more weight for more reps. And if you want to work your "core" then do specific exercises for that (crunches, side bends, hanging leg raises, hypers, etc).

They are both good ,seated presses are going to get you more size but if you do them standing your hole body is going to work isometrically to hold the weight and its going to get you in better shape and all around stronger.

ok, so do em both, maybe start off with the standing on lower weights to warm up the shoulders while working the core, then sit down and bang out the big'uns.

You may have hit the head on the nail. Why not do a couple sets each way and get the best of both worlds?

Yep as others have said they both have a purpose. Beginners should do them standing imo to build a strong core.

x2.
If you are training for a sport, like male cheerleading or gymnastics, standing presses would be useful.
If you want big shoulders, do them seated.
