Are you embarrassed to be an amateur fighter?
For some reason I'm a bit embarrassed that all my friends wants to watch me fight at amateur/smokers events. I feel as if I'm not pro so it's not worth come'n to watch. Very odd feeling...hah.

Nothing to be embarrassed about, you have to start somewhere. Even the Pros started at the bottom at one time or another.
Any of your friends gives you any **** then fight them. Not for real just "take'em around the block" a time or two for fun.
Hang in there.

Its like jacking off almost every fighter has done it.. Having a good amature record is what makes a good fighter. Why do you think the fighters in Shooto at the top level are very skilled? guys like aoki, sakurai and gomi? because shooto only let them compete in their own A B or C class and made them earn a higher rank. The guys from the TUF show get on the big stage after 2 pro fights and even somtimes with no fights at all. very sad.. anyway best thing to do is to fight amature away from your home town so no pressure will be on u. good luck.

I wouldn't call it embarrassment, but it sometimes gets annoying having to explain to some people why I'm an amateur fighter. A lot of people, upon finding out about it through friends of mine or fellow teammates, will suddenly wonder why I would be involved what they perceive as a sport of nothing more than violence and barbarism. I prefer not to talk about it in certain situations since having to edu-ma-cate people gets annoying when you have to do it so often.

dude i have ****loads of respect for amature fighters, don't ever feel down just because you're not the same level as the pro's. amature fights are worth watching, everyone starts somewhere. i still have a year or two before i compete.

Man, I've got nothing but respect for anyone who steps in a cage or ring whether it be amature or pro or whatever. You have the balls to do something that 99% of people won't do.

when i first started karate...about 1 month ago my friends came to watch me train at my college in the evening. i was in a kumite..i was owned during the first few times
i kept on training and yesturday during training there was a kumite session before the end of pratice and my friends came to watch..i dropped a coiple heavy punches and a few kicks and i kindda beat the **** out of this other guy...my friends found it pretty cool
i dun really care if my friends come watch or not..dun even care what they think about you if u so absolutley bad in a fight...they might say 'ohh you suck ****" and so on, but deep down inside they know that THEY themselves wouldnt have the guts to step inside

I'm actually sometimes embarassed about admiting my desire to fight pro someday
I started late (but hell I can't help that now and I wont give up because of it) so it's kinda like people will not expect me to be a fighter or whatever
but I don't know, it's just like I worry people will laugh at me over it

you obviously know nothing about the sport, you have more of a chance getting paralized playing football than you do in Mixed martial arts, Most ppl dont do it for the money, It takes a great deal of skill to be a good mma fighter, do you think the same way about boxing? boxing is also more dangerous, you get hit in the head hundreds of times, mma is more than just punching. you should really think before you make a post like that, it really shows how smart you are.

Don't even acknowledge the trolls.
There is nothing to be embarrassed about unless you are not taking the sport seriously or are performing "embarrassingly."

When did the nazis check on people to see if they were ok? They just killed a bunch of people they didn't know.
Kind of like you just wished death on a bunch of people you don't know?
Crazy, eh?

Back in my mid 20's i was an amateur boxer. It's a means to an end and will make you a better fighter as a pro. The more REAL experience you have in the ring or cage the better.

I am not a fighter but I do play Semi-Pro football. It sucks when you try and advertise for the team or do community event for promotional reasons and you get alot of 'I only watch NFL' or 'If it aint the NFL I dont like it' ****.
It gets old but no one really knows what we are amateur, semi-pro, minor league athletes go through.
Its called PAYING YOUR DUES and everyone has to do it. To make it pro in MMA you need to fight amateur. To go the the NFL, CFL, AFL, or an independent pro league you need to start somewhere if you don't go the college route. Semi-Pro or just walking on is the only other ways.

Totally understandable. My friends expect me to come out wearing "Affliction" gear with "hardcore" music playing, and they're always disappointed when that's not the case. These days, I just don't tell them when I'm fighting.
