The best gym I've been to near the Essex county area is Signature Fitness in Belleville (used to be Gold's Gym). I used to go there when I lived in Newark. It's open 24 hrs. a day and you have plenty of hardcore people there (and plenty of others warming up for weekend fist pumping). I'm not sure if they had daycare. Stay away from Ballys Fitness ( my current gym). It does have daycare, but it's the dirtiest gym I've been to in all my life. Dumbells and plates all over the floor is the standard (as well as sweaty machines).
