Adverse Reaction to Restaurant Foods and other NON-Clean Foods
I have never really had any stomach problems before I started eating clean, and I still don't as long as I eat clean. Before eating clean I was able to eat anything and everything and I would be fine, but now if I eat just one thing that is not considered clean food, or if I just eat anything that is prepared at a restaurant, my stomach feels horrible regardless if it's clean food or not. It feels like food poisoning almost. I thought maybe it was the place I ate at, but it doesn't matter where I eat, it's always the same reaction now. I've even given up clean eating for a week and my stomach adventually accepts everything and I have no reaction. Then I will start to eat clean again and have 1 cheat meal and I start all over with the symptoms of food poisoning. I thought maybe I was allergic to MSG since that is the main ingredient used in restaurants and not in the meals I prepare myself, but it's not. I bought some and added it to my meals to see if I would experience the same symptoms and I didn't.
Questions:
Has anyone had a similar experience with eating clean for a while and then eating a cheat meal?
Any suggestions as to what could be going on?
Any suggestions, knowledge, advise will be appreciated.

greasy/rich foods make me sick now
When I cook its baked/grilled and when I do pan fry its with PAM
if I eat at an italian restaurant, the heavy oil/butter really gets
to me and I feel sick. (but not hospital sick mind you)
after that I cant wait for another day to eat clean again

its good isnt it? will help you stick to clean, healthy foods.
and yeah, it could be that you've been 'spoiling' your body, and that it just feels much better now that you're eating healthy. and then when it gets junk shoved inside it can feel bad cos it's used to much higher quality foods. (kinda like downgrading from a 5star to a 1star hotel, sucks when u know what ur missing). also it's not used to having to get rid of all of those chemicals etc. anymore so it has to kick-up all those processes again. or something.
i dunno, im just rationalizing.

I agree with this rationalization, but even if I eat Clean Foods at a resaurant, I have the same thing happening to me if I ate junk food at a drive-thru.

I remember a quote from Stallone saying that he dieted so strict for one of the Rockys that when he eventually had a hotdog at a ballgame it made him very ill. So I guess it's not all that uncommon, but I eat cleaner than most people and never have a problem if I have a cheat day, so I cant help you in this regard.

Thanks for the quote, it's nice to know I'm not alone with my issues.

Keep in mind that there could be a large psychological aspect too. I could never go back to a McDonalds or Taco Bell once I became vegan. Even after finding things to eat there I would think about their practices and (illogically or logically) assume my food was 'contaminated' in some way.
Sometimes you just gotta eat junk, a few meals a month aren't gonna kill you.

I have to agree with you on that one, I think that sometimes you are so health-conscious that you actually translate all the thoughts that you have in your mind (e.g. greasy food = heart attack) to how you feel. It's funny, but before, I could anything and not feel bloated or anything, but sometimes after my cheat meal, now I feel stomach aches, does that mean my body has developed some kind of resistance for crappy food? Who knows...

I know the feeling: I was made to eat fried chicken (family), and let's just say I came to know the crapper very well that evening. Same with Costco hotdogs, which I used to like.
Now I see a donut and go "eww"... can't believe I ATE those once! Candy bars now make me cringe... I'd rather eat a Pure Protein bar, thanks!
After tofu silk cake, it's not so bad, though... as long as I don't eat past the point of satiety, that is. I guess because it's not greasy. Or the psychological aspect of me enjoying it sooo much applies, who knows.
When you've eaten clean for long enough, you find out what cheat foods you REALLY like, and which ones were just things you used to crave which are just crap.

mostly because of how its made its going to affect how it feels on ur stomach
since ur body is so use to how you have meals that arent loaded with crap and sauces and other ingrediants that hold the perservatives in foods it feels foreign in ur body and prob gives ur body a bad after taste its quite normal to me also considering how clean i also eat and if i do eat something different or go out to eat it never settles 100% either
believe me ur not alone on this one bro.. ive been on this ship for a while now too.. and i look forward to eating clean the next meal because it settles a lot better and i rather cook for myself because i know it will be cleaner and be able to settle straight

I'm not as bad, I can eat out, but even small amounts of heavily refined oils (vegetable mostly) and especially hydrogenated lead to really bad heartburn.
I have to be careful, especially traveling or when I am having a 'cheat' day. I usually go out to decent to really good restaurants and it's not a problem.
It can become a real pain when traveling and not being too worried about eating clean, but is also a good excuse to get me out of eating a load of junk at social and work occasions.
EDIT: although I don't particularly like meals with a lot of fat, butter, cream, olive oil etc.. I'm just fine with. It's only the processed oils that seem to bug me.

It might also be partly an age thing in my case.
But if someone were to read this thread and say - well this might be a good reason to occasionally eat junk, rather than say a clean re-feed, I might not totally disagree!
I gave up junk food almost 10 years ago, so it did take 5+ years of not eating fast food, at an age over 30 (plus some other medical issues). But it does seem fairly common - your body just somehow loses the ability to process the 'crap'.
Probably similar to milk - if you gave up milk for a few years and they tried drinking it again, chances are you would be at least mildly lactose intolerant.
