[QUOTE=proteinpump;90457083]That is good to know because I do get very uncomfortable around drinkers. I have a very big challenge next week, I am going sailing for several days and will be out in the middle of the ocean with no where to go and the other people on board will be drinking. I am stocked up with diet soda and coffee to get me through.[/QUOT
Just remeber that a year is a long time and not only would you have to face your family but your self also. And just some advice bring some caffeine free sodas also, the first time I went out I got home around 1:00 and did not sleep till 5:00.I dont think I drank that much soda sinse I was in high school.best of luck to you.

The first time doing something sober is always the most difficult for me. Do you have any literature you can take with you? (Big Book, etc.) You can read some literature in your down time to "remind" you what will happen if you drink/take/snort/shoot the first one. Remember it's always the FIRST one that will set off the craving, not the 3rd or 6th or 8th one). Will there be any other sober/non drinking people on board? Will you be able to use your cell phone (well probably not, since your going to sea and all). Internet? Guess what i'm suggesting is to have some kind of plan. Something to fall back on.
(yes concern) (no dictator) (yes suggestions) lol I lurk on teh misc too much

Nobody will be drinking heavily, because we have to sail 24/7, but I will just excuse myself and read a book if I feel uncomfortable. I will have no cell out at sea and no internet, just email through satellite which is very slow sending and receiving messages. I really appreciate you're concern, it means alot that you take the time to suggest things...thank you

I doubt your fellow sailors would go for it, but one of the sailboats I used to race on had a no drinking policy until we hit port and secured the boat. When I raced the Chicago to Mackinac Island, MI, it was the longest 40 hours of my drinking career.
I wish you well on your trip. I don't know if I would have had the nerve to attempt what you are doing when I had your clean time. Once, after having 2 years sober, I was living in Chicago and was going downtown for a political function when it hit me that I was heading to a large bar to meet with people I had never met before. I knew it wasn't right, pulled out my directory of meetings and found one in the neighborhood I was at the time.
If you like, PM me your email & itenerary and I will send you some "thoughts for the day." No worries if you don't.

yeah..
i like to drink a lot, but these days im so keen on weight loss and all that so i try to only have a big night once a fortnight or so, and with exams coming up i am not going to go out at all
as for drugs (bix, coke, speed), i used to.. but the fact that im this serious about BB has really made me stop because they are so detrimental to mass gain n all that
having said that, i still enjoy the casual ciggy and occassional joint

I celerbated three years a month ago. Went from 135 to 170 within a few months of getting sober. Now about 210 after working out a little over a year. I kinda went crazy on the cigs and energy drinks when I first got sober. Don't even drink caffine anymore.

Clean And Sober
Clean and sober since March 25th, 2007.
My last blunt was January 1st in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. My last cigarette was Export "A" Regular @ 18:11 (6:11pm), Monday, January 15th, 2007 with Deep Purple "Smoke On The Water" playing here where I live in Canada. My last beer was a Budweiser the afternoon of Sunday, March 25th, 2007.
Sometimes it's hard but it's worth it. I find I seem to have fewer friends but a healthier lifestyle.

Just came across this thread. Have a couple yrs atm and prior to my last evening of drinking had had a year.
Before that a number of lenghty periods after some treatment and education on alcohol and other drugs some 12-13 yrs ago.

Great Thread!
I have 8 months and 11 days today! Clean and serene is the key to my success at work , in the weight room and at school! I am so happy to be alive and clean today!
Since getting clean I have gotten on the honor roll at school, lost 65 lbs and bought a house. Get clean, stay clean life is beautiful.
Best of luck to all you people here in the thread. The power is in one addict/alcoholic helping another.

Clean and Sober for 3 Years .
Best thing I have ever done.
I do find that I overcompensate with eating too much and have to try my best to moderate...I love to overeat. I use to be 190 and am now 205 but life is so so so much better these days.

I'm going to court today to start my sentencing for diversion classes for dui for marijuana. Weak.
Guess I'm going to have to be an alcoholic.

Well, the thing you don't understand is that we addicts cannot moderate, that's why we're addicts!
