Hey man. I want to be a cop. Different states PDs have different drug policies. If you are honest on your application and on your polygraph then you will be fine as long as this is a couple of years away. The more time between you and this drug charge the better. As long as you are not a convicted felon or have a horrible driving record you will always have a chance!

I just had an interview with my local PD the other day. I was honest. I told them that I've smoked weed in high school. And a few years ago I tried cocaine and ecstacy. They called me today and asked me to come by and pick up a background info packet (the next step in the hiring phase). It probably helps me that my uncle was a detective with the PD for 25 years and my father is very close friends with the Chief, the Asst. Chief and several of the Captains that I interviewed with. We'll see how it goes from here though, I'm still not all that positive that I'll get hired.

Look dude. My goal in life is to be a firefighter/paramedic. I've never sold drugs or anything, but we've all done stupid ****. Every day I wonder if I've done anything that might come back to bite me in the ass. You just got to forget it, work hard for your goals and you'll be fine.

Besides, if you've never screwed up once in your life, then how the hell are you human? And yes... look at how corrupt some cops are, some firefighters are arsonists.

I guess... basically... relax.

I think they do a lie detector test. My criminology teacher said that they only ask if you have used mj in the last four years (other drugs are a much longer period). I don't think a little favor like that is considered trafficking. But I'm not sure. I would say you have a good chance, don't give up.

I didnt read through the whole thread but Ive taken a poly for a backround this is how it went for me

I got a questioner prior to the test with something like 300+ yes or no questions and they varied from drugs, alcohol, violence, to sexual history. Some of them were pretty specific.
Then you turned in the packet and the person giving the poly had a meeting with you to get clarification on some of the questions. Like in your case they would want to know all the details about your "drug sale".
Then he would ask you questions customized to you and the way you answered your questions. The drift i got from the guy was that they were more concerned about you lying and trying to hide and not being completely honest about something rather than what you actually did. (of course depends on what you did and there policies)

I know all the test arent like that and sometimes they just ask you the same generic questions as everyone else.
My advice would be to try and talk to some of the people that work for the dpt your applying to get there advice. Also be 100% honest about everything cause if they get any detection of deception your not gettin the job

I think it's more the plot to kill the president that will inhibit you from getting the job rather than selling a little doggie bag of weed to a friend.

I'm fairly certain the police department will overlook that whole threatening the life of the President thing. Maybe you'll even get a recommendation letter from your new friends at the Secret Service.
