Calvesssss
I hear a lot of ppl on these forums saying they can't get their calves that big, and I was the same. Recently, for the past month ish I have been doing an exercise that has made my calves massive, particularly at the top (I think that is due to the gastronemus muscle). Just thought I would share it with you as b4 doing standing/seated calf raises, or on a calf machine have not worked that well.
Just stand on a metal box or a stack of weights, placed under a smith machine, using just the balls of your feet. Add a medium weight to the bar, say about 70 - 90 kilo. Then bounce up and down on the balls of your feet for about half a minute to a minute. I do bout 4 sets. They wreck your calves.
Peace

I also find calves respond best to high reps, meaning that if you are doing standing calf raises, you really shouldn't try walking anywhere for a while after a set.
That said, I like to increase the weight as well, no point in doing hundreds of reps when 3-5 sets of 20 or so with increasing weight will do the same job.
*The Leg Press machine is another good way to hit calves, though I don't do it as I workout at home, when I do (occasionally) go to the gym (with friends) I always use it and it's a killer.

I have found that keeping the knees slightly bent is crucial to work the calf muscle. I used to work them with my knees completely locked. I will also go heavy (maxing out at about the 15th rep) and super setting with individual weighted calf raises.

I use the smith machine also. I may start doing one legged calf raises, as when I do normal two-legged ones, I feel it more in the right than in the left.
I normally do 3 sets of 10 reps. Although I'll probably do more sets next time.

another 2 good calf program is 10 sets of 5
and doggcrapps version 1 set of 12 take 5 sec to lower weight then hold the stretch for 10-15 sec.(keep knees slightly bent on all but seated calf raises)

No. The muscles of the calves do not attach on the femur so knee angle is not important

Does it really matter? Youre using the weight to target the calves, not any stabalizers...shouldnt make a difference. If youre so self conscious that you cant use the smith for anything then youre the one missing out!
