Bs, how many times in life do you need to do a "pullup" type movement? Hardly ever
True measures of strength are excercises that are most likely to be mimicked in real life situations. Because of this Id say excercises like the squat and deadlift are the best because just about everyone does a variation of them in real life situations on a daily basis whether it be getting into your car or picking up a briefcase.

I believe pullups are the best standard for pulling strength(weighted chins/pullups, not high numbers of repetitions)...pertaining to those of us who can do one arm chins and ridiculous numbers on weighted chins. However, it doesn't cover the full body(i.e. lower body or pushing strength), there is no single excercise out there that can determine that. I can attest to this cause I can do one arm chins and almost a 200% bodyweight chin but can barely squat 225.

Gorillas are actually pretty damn lazy. Stop reading Matt Furey's stupid monkey program, and avoid that 'irish bareknuckle boxing' too while you're at it. The reason gorillas are stronger than us is because they're a separate species who are huge with high levels of testosterone.

Why did you put in the title 'for girls'? Are they less difficult behind the neck for guys? I guess they are harder, but it's probably better to just do it normally and add weight to increase difficult for useful strength.

pull ups
all i wanna say is this, pull ups are nice and surely, a test of strenght, but i also agree that the benching is a better measure of strenght.
also, for me, pull ups are a way of testing how strong my arms are.

A true test of strength would be a lift that involves the most muscles of the body. Legs are the strongest part of your body so naturally the lift would involve these in some way.
Lifts that use a lot of the muscle on the body.
Clean and press (in a way two lifts done one after the other so this is kind of cheating) Lots of legs, lots of lower torso, lots of arm and shoulder, strong grip
Deadlift - Lots of leg depending on style, probably more lower torso than any other lift, most of the muscles of the entire back, strong grip
Hip squat with arm supports - (This would be a weight supported under the hips by a belt, you would squat and use the arms and upper body as well as your legs to help lift the body back up to a standing position.) I sort of just made this up but theoretically a hip squat with upperbody help would use more muscles than any other lift.

behind the neck pullups are chickensh**. Alls I do is chinups/pullups in all their variations, along with rope climbing when I get the opportunity. However I will admit I suck in pretty much anything other than chinning and pullup movements

pullups/chinups seem to be a lot about how often you're doing them, some term like "greasing the groove" gets thrown around a bit in lifting terminology which i take to mean exactly this.
i used to do pullups every session and it wasn't much to do 15 or 20 for a couple of sets, but having really reduced the number i do each week (sometimes they get left as only sets of ten for a warm up before back day) i am finding that 10 or 12 while not maxing out seem a lot harder than they used to, even though i'm stronger than i was three months ago.
closest post to accurate thus far I'd imagine was the power to weight ratio aspect. When doing chins with a mate, who weighed ~20kg more than I, we would both do say a set of 10 reps but i would strap anywhere from 15 or 20kg to a weight belt, so strength wise we were on a par, yet strength to weight ratio i would have him by a bit.
and yes, I'm still striving to hit 70kg's bw and fully see that posting high chinup numbers is a more a function of my slight frame than any great strength imbued in me.

I never believe of cable pull down
i always do front chin wide crap pullup and behind chin wide crap. pull up. it give v-shape and big massive back. even arnold he done it back in has days. I never done cable pull down. i dont believe of it. I use to do them before when i was 19 it didnt give me much massive as much wide crap pull ups

Why don't they invent a lift where you combine a chin-up with a squat? This would solve everyone's objections.
Basically, you have a barbell heavier than you can squat, and your hands hold on to a bar and are flexed at the top, and get extended when you are fully squatted. It might limit the RoM a bit but whatever.
