No more than we'd complain about Backlund if we were young adults in the early 80's.
The smart fans would recognise Hogan's greatness and would know his Japan work from having traded tapes or ordered them on the back of magazines. They would like him, but honestly would feel guys like Perfect, Rude, DiBiase and Bad News were being held down as he hogs the spotlight. The ones who watched more wrestling than WWF and saw them elsewhere would not like their lack of pushes whether it's Vince's fault or not that Hogan is booked as an unstoppable monster face...
Overall, there is more negative criticism toward today's entertainment in general, and a lot of it traffics though venting on the internet.

This is actually true. Even I find myself not wanting to come onto the WWE Section sometimes because of the influence the negativity within the comments sometimes have on my frail soul.

would we have hated Hulk Hogan like most people hate John Cena today?
NO. Hogan was convincing. Cena just show you that his acting.

alot of adults now were in their 20's when hogan was running wild....and they loved it. How many middle aged people do you hear right now say they hated hogan? Even jimbob was a mark for Hulk hogan then and jimbob is bitter to the very soul. That should say alot.
Cena hasn't had 1/10th of the influence on the business that Hogan had... there was a reason he got the same "mixed crowd" reactions Cena gets by 1993, though.

Hogan's popularity was going down in the early 90's. Fans slowly were growing tired of him starting around this time. That's not to say he didn't still have many loyal fans. He did but some were growing tired of him. I was still a fan but I was watching a WcW ppv in '94 I think and I said Hogan's old and he's not as popular as he used to be. Someone else said their son still liked him. So, opinion varies I was the long time fan sort of tired of the same old thing and some kid wasn't.
The internet really spreads negativity. Positive stuff is also said but people who dislike whatever have a more powerful motivation to express it. I can't say how much it would have been different for Hogan in the early 90's but I'm sure there would have been more negativity towards him.
We have to remember that the culture was also different at the time also. Not just because it was minus the internet either. We have to guess how the internet would have changed the 90's environment not plant the present day culture and internet in the 90's and say it would have been this way.

Wasen't he getting booed pretty bad in WCW during his initial face run, 1994-ish? I suspect some of it had to do with the whole steroid trial and his good guy 'eat your vitamins' image taking a hit.
He still got quite the massive pop for his win at Wrestlemania 9.
If John Cena turns heel and does an awesome job at it (and let's face it, we all know he would be a great heel), how long will it be until the Internet fans love him and the "smart" fans cheer him at events?
I'm sure there would be a lot of hate on Hogan if he were around during the time of internet, twitter, facebook, etc.....But probably not as much as poor Cena
