Forarm splints?
My Training partner says he has sharp pains in his forarms, I'm pretty sure from doing barbell curls. I'm thus far bullit proof, anyone hear of this problem and mabee have any advice on what to do. Thanks

I'm just going to go out on a limb here and assume he is doing preacher curls.
Preacher or BB curls. As you suggested.
MY SUGGESTION to get rid of them is when he done with his set, instead of racking it right away, to just let it hang in his hands. Do this with both hands if it hurts both arms, or do it with just the arm that it hurts, hold onto the bar for like 4-5 seconds. The pain will still be there but will not be nearly as bad.
I've had this before and it got rid of it. Give it a few weeks.

suffer from it myself
if he's gonna curl tell him to use dumbells and see how that goes.. any curl u can do with a bar can be done better with dumbells

Ive got that same exact problem. Both forearms, I get that sharp stinging pain when I put the weights down. I hold the bar for an additional couple seconds before letting go and that kind of clears it up a little bit. Im working on bulking up my forearms to maybe help contribute to the lifting and maybe that will take some stress off my forearm bones.
Other than that, icy hot after your workout and just push thru the problem.

Take some time off, I had the same thing and tried to work through it and ended up with stress fractures in both my forearms... 8 weeks I'll never have back. Take at least 2 weeks off then try lifting, but if the pain comes back SEE A DOCTOR. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE.

dont really think that helps... my forearms and grip are pretty strong and that never cured anything for me

No offense man, but nine times out of ten pushing through pain leads to serious injury. I'm all for hard work and not being a pussy, but I'd get an OK from a doc before trying it. Like I said I tried doing it and not only did I set myself back I almost went f-n' crazy from not being able to go to the gym.

I went through something very similar. When I did Preachers I had strong pain in the outer sweeps of the forearms, up to the wrist. Found that while the bicep could handle the load, the forearms weren't up to it. I backed off the weight on the preachers by about 20% and added a few more reps. Then, I added forearm work. Forward and reverse wrist curls, as well as grip work. Problem cleared in about 4 weeks. I'm back to where I was before the pain, without the pain.

good advice
my forearms were fine until i started curling weight that i've never done before. i seemed to have injured myself from the forearms to wrists. i gave a couple weeks off from the gym and my forearms seemed to get a little better. i still get pain but its not unbearable. less weight more reps works

Had this exact same problem. Shooting pain up the forearms when I release the weight. What I did was gradually ease my grip on the weight over 5 seconds. The shooting pain went away then.

i had the same thing, and occasionaly still get it when i do preachers with a bar.
i found a few things that helped.
-i concentrated on not squeezing the **** out of the bar as i did my set. keep the normal, correct grip just dont squeeze as hard while you are doing reps. i think this helped keep the tendons relaxed, it also helped me focus on lifting with just my biceps.
-for some reason i would not get any pain when using a preacher machine vs. freeweight ez curl bar.
-dumbells as stated before
-doign some forearm work, in particular i would just hang as long as i could from a chin up bar for three sets. this seemed non-destructive but helped stretch and strengthen.
i would say if the pain is real bad and you have been trying to work through it to take some time off any bicep work THAT HURTS. maybe 2-3 weeks. when you get back into doing the stuff that casued the pain, go light weight and high reps and if you start to feel the pain again, stop and finish yur sets with something that doesnt hurt.

Hey, I am the lifting partner mentioned at the beginning of this forum. Most of the pain does come from doing barbell curls. Sadly enough I haven't done to much arm work in about 2 weeks so I can give my fore arms a chance to heal up. I will do some work sometime this week, however plan to mainly use dumbbells, since it has been mentioned several times on here, and to help catch my left arm up to my right(there is a visible size difference between the two). I wanted to say thanks for all the input here, and I will be sure to post the results when I work my arms.

I have had the same pain for some time. I was thinking it could be that the weight I am able to curl now is too heavy for my forearms. Sounds like we have to go and work on the forearms more. As always, thanks for all the info.
just wanted to clarify, this pain runs on the outside of the forearms (pinky side) about five inches up from wrist and it hurts to push on it. Feels really deep and to the bone.

Had it. Ice it and take some IB Proufen for inflamation. After a few weeks off, start working on your forearms. They are too weak to keep up with your bicep hence the need for direct work. Good luck
