I also cannot do flys properly because my right arm just gives in, i cant even straighten my arm properly while doing them, and if i force them out i get a sharp pain on the inside of my bicep. I don't consider this a major problem but it is really holding me back, especially for developing my chest. I think this could be my rotator cuff (i push down on my front deltoid and the pain is deep in there). These shoulder exercises have greatly increased my flexibility but I don't think they will help my shoulder get better so that I can bench and do fly's again. I am thinking of going to see my doctor soon, besides that any suggestions?

if you're having should pain right now, quit doing chest and shoulder work outs until the pain is gone 100%. You can still work out back (light) unless it hurts too.
I had the same problem when I started weight lifting too. Always hurt my shoulders, couldn't figure out why, and I always did perfect form.
Well the problem is you arn't working out your rotator cuff. So search how to do every rotator cuff exercise and start doing those exercises with 3lb weight. When the pain is 100% gone, begin working out chest and shoulders with light weights for another 3 weeks. Resume working out the rotator cuff once a week, and before any upper body exercise WARM UP AND STRETCH.
good luck, any more questions, feel free to ask me.

i've gone back to the gym at long last following my shoulder dislocation, but i'm still struggling even with the lightest weights for deltoid raises and there's still some pain when i move the shoulder. guess i will have to keep trying, especially training the rotator cuffs.

If your shoulder clicks with any movement and hurts, your have a problem.
Start doing rotator exercises Every Third Day with two cans of soup. Then move up to 5lbs when it's healed more. Build those rotator cuffs up. I work out my rotator cuff 5 times a week now, before every workout.

Thus I spoke more than half a year ago. I can't exactly remember this 'progress' i mentioned, but I guess I've just been lazy all the time. Just tried this exercise (took me a while until I finally tried) and it actually feels good. I used a really wide grip and couldn't do a lot of reps, but I'll try to work on it every day now.

I actually do an exercise like that with a dumbell (very light weight). I don't really know how to describe the exercise in full detail but it helped me a lot. It hurt like hell the first few tries but it really improved the strength in my shoulder.

Not all people can go that far but you can really increase your flexibility with just a few weeks of practicing this exercise.

I agree. It should be done whether you have shoulder problems or not because it prevents any future problems.

This exercise is hard to understand by how he describes it, but read it throughly.
On a side note I was't the person who found this site on BB.com so here is the link to the forum that I found it on.

The person who found it is BernieD, so if this cures your shoulder problems and you want to rep me.. DONT, rep BernieD for finding it first. Thanks.

yeah, but will it work for McCain?.........
too soon?

I have been subscribed to this thread for like a year now...but I never read it. The recent bumps made it appear more regularly at the top of my subscribed threads...so I peeked my head in.
I must say that after I watched the youtube links, I thought to myself...there is no freaking way in hell that I would be able to do that...
I was wrong. Using a 60" broom handle that I got from our sliding glass door, I was easily able to do the full range of motion as shown in the videos. I can move my grip in a couple of inches on each hand, and still do it...but not much past that.
I was shocked that I was able to 50 of them with full motion. I will keep at it, until my hands come close together. What is the theoretical closest they can get?
ALso, is this to strengthen the rotator cuff, or to stretch it? Or both? Do I need to add strength training now to target the rotator cuff?

Different opinion here.
These only aggrivated my shoulder problem. You need to be careful doing this movement because it can make your injury worse. Dante knows his stuff, but no one method just cures any type of shoulder injury. The joint is too complex and the injuries too varied for one movement to be a cure all answer.

Dam. This will come in handy for sure. Been suffering from a shoulder injury for quite some time and never knew how to deal with it outside of just ice.
