i do that.. i saw a commercial for some bags called green bags. they are suppose to keep fruit fresher longer. i think i just really need a book (or a man..smile.) that can show me the ropes of cooking.. im even having a hard time building meals. im kind of doing that blindly. i search through here and get ideas. but most of the seasoning i dont have.. for that fact foods either. i seem to buy the opposite when i go shopping.

I just buy most of my fruit frozen... the nutrient content is as good as fresh (or better) and you can throw it in just about anything...especially for my protein shakes, etc. it's so easy to just use frozen berries or even bananas.

One tip is to make sure you dont wash your fruit until right before you eat it. Many people wash it as soon as they bring it home from the store, but it will actually make it go bad faster... hang in there. I never learned how to cook either. I am actually buidling my own recipe book with things I have found on the net, in magazines or on TV and I plan to try them out when I get home from Iraq. Just try to start with the small easy stuff.. like baked chicken or something. Use google if you are lost...its a lifesaver!

apples, pears and citrus fruits tend to have the longest shelf life for me. And when I buy peaches, nectarines, plums etc, I try to go for a range of "ripeness" (one or two ripe/nearly there and a few harder ones that can be ready in a few days to a week). When those fruit start to ripen, you can throw 'em in the fridge to prolong their life a few more days. And if you run into a whole sack of fresh fruit that is turning, you can chop it up yourself and freeze it.

I have the same problerm w/ veggies. The green bags that someon mentioned work wonderful. My mom bought some and they give you quite a few so she gave a few to me. I highly recommend them to save $$$ since you will not be throwing old fruit out!
