Right, I simply took into account cardio and some vigorous masturbation.

Actually, when I entered my weight and height, it said I needed 980-something to maintain weight.
Now THAT'S starvation (and bull****... I lost 20 lbs on 500 more than that!)
So those things aren't always accurate...

I think I'm just gona eat around 4,000 Calories a day and stick to the 5X5 and see where it takes me.

Todays totals:

7:00 - 4 Eggs, 3 pieces of bacon, 1 cup oats and 2% milk

12:00 - 1 Chicken breast, 3 pieces of baked cod, 1 Cup of oats and 2% milk, 2 cups mixed veggies

3:30 - 1 chicken enchilada, half a quesadilla

6:45 - 4 chicken enchilada, half a quesadilla

Calories - 3,573 Fat - 139G Carbs - 316G Protein 266G

40G of fat came from eggs and cod. The enchiladas were around 50G..not too good.

I found some cereal down in the cafe that is almost pure oats I believe...so Im gona have 2 cups or so of those a day.

Its so hard for me to make myself eat carbs...i feel like im doing something bad as im used to watching how many i eat. I have a decent gut on me and some extra fat on my chest too. I might keep my diet almost all lean, and just have some carbs post workout (around 100G right after workout)...probably around 200G a day, because I want to bulk up some but i want it to be pretty lean..

Opinions?

Dave_L is on a distinguished road. (+10)
I eat around 2200-2300 calories a day and initially, I dropped weight but I think that was just the last little bit of fat that I was trying to lose. I'm now mainting/slightly gaining weight. BTW, I'm just over 6 feet tall and 181 lbs. Last time I check my body fat, i was at 12% and 186 lbs. I dropped to about 179 and now i'm climbing back up. For exercise, i run 2 miles in the morning, lift at night and do 30 more min of cardio after lifting.

okay, I posted this yesterday, but didn't get much help.
On my second job, I am an order filler for Walmart Distribution Center. it requires about 10 hrs of stead fast paced walking, bending and lifting 30-50 lbs(roughly 3000-4000 times a day) and sweating like a stuck pig. I am trying to finish cutting down, but I'm afraid to take in to little nutrition.
I am taking in about 200-250 grams of protein(from various sources) and very little carbs(complex). I average between 2000-2500 calories a day. On the weekends, however, I get a surplus of ALL the bad stuff.
you'd think I would be ripped after doing this four days a week for two years. but, I think my body has gotten used to the demand and is not burning the same amount of calories as in the beginning.
help, please!

I don't doubt that fitday is completely accurate. However, their error is nothing compared to the ~30% that you get from your calculation.
4oz per chiken breast? I have to cook almost 2 to get that.
If somebody told you that your maintenance is exactly 2981.756, what good would that do if you don't really know how much you are actually eating?

You didn't get much help cause you answered your own question. "I get a surplus of ALL the bad stuff."

^That could be contributing to your problem...and for future reference, don't hi-jack threads.

i would suggest using 1 number to account for the amount of calories you would need to consume to maintain weight, say 3000 calories, if this is what you calculated. if you want to cut bf, reduce calories from 3000 and maintain activity, reducing calories as needed. if you want to bulk, start at 3000, then add calories every week or so as needed and adjust accordingly. pick one or the other and focus on it. is it possible to gain muscle and cut fat? sure, but you will get better results if you focus on one diet or the other. stick with one, fine tune it, then work on the other and start the process over again. imo, it takes more than 2-4 weeks to get a specific target of how many calories you need to either cut or bulk if you're confused about your calories in the first place. afterwards, once you figure out how many calories you need either way, meal preparation becomes easy and you'll be able to flip back and forth between cutting or bulking due to experience. btw, did you ever mention you bf %?

if you dont do anything at all and just lay around, ur still gona burn calories. ur metabolism is amazing. I did a study with a guy in class (exercise phys) where he stayed dormant for 24 hrs. He weighed like 180 pounds and he burned about 1750 cals. Take notice that he didn't eat, walk around, or any physical activity. So, yeah, you could burn 2800cals a day. I also have a friend, ectomorph all the way who eats all the time. Easily 4000cals a day, but cant gain weight. He's always been that way too. Body fat is LOW LOW.

I'm really not sure of my BF. My arms are lean but my stomach and chest have extra fat on them...id say between 13 and 18 percent. I think I will try to eat around the same amount of food a day..like 5 chicken breast a day and a cup of oats a day etc etc, and see how im doing in a week or 2. I need to get a scale or something to weigh the food also..thatd probably help

Thanks for the post guys

I'm eating 3300 this week, trying to gain a lb at most. I've been doing 2800 and maintained at a slugs pace, so I figure if I gain more then a lb i'll know where i stand. I lift 6 times a week and cardio twice, walk alot 3 days a week but otherwise i'm a slug. I think i have a really fast metabolism, i cut from 15 to 8% bf in a month and a half so i think I'm a hardgainer.
