Angry I need help !!!!

I am a 36 year old mother of a ten year old. When I was younger & before I had my son I could eat anything I wanted & always looked really good. Now that I am older I want to get back in shape & being healthy is really important to me. I am 5'6" and I weigh 157 lbs. I want to loose about 30 lbs & be firm but not muscular. I joined a gym yesterday that has free weights and machines. I have some problems with my knees and have to be careful I also get shin slints really easy on the treadmill.

I am looking for a routin that best fits my needs but haven't found one yet if anyone has something I can use please let me know.

Thank You

I know what you mean! I had 2 children and my body didn't change much afterward. (My first I was 19, my second I was 22). But when I had my 3rd at 25 I put on about 25 lbs to date. I have vericose veins and stretch marks that I didn't have after the first 2.

If you have trouble with your knees, I'd supplement with L-glucosamin and add fish oil to your diet.

If you get shin splints on the treadmill, try the elyptical machine. I love it! It's nice because it works your arms, too. If you need to take some of the work off your legs hold on to the handles. When your arms get tired, let go and hold the stationary handle bar! It seems that I can go longer because of this.

If you really like the treadmill, I would go to a pediatrist and see if you need to wear different kinds of sneakers, or special inserts. I really don't know a lot about this, but it's just a suggestion.

Do you have any exercise experience? The eliptical and stationary bike would be good for cardio. Try not to overdo it as you're starting out, you don't want to be sore and quit. Dumbbells are a good place to start with weights. Again, start out light so you don't overdo it.
Also make sure you set aside the time and put it on your calendar. I have two kids and it's soooooo easy to let the everyday schedule get in the way of working out. I know for me, one excuse becomes a slippery slope and before I know it I haven't worked out in weeks. I'm a runner now and I sign up for races to keep me motivated so I don't quit. I know you mentioned shin splints, but maybe you could do some charity walks?
