Depending on your body size and natural genetics you can gain approximately .5 lbs muscle/week. That equates to roughly 2lbs of muscle a month at optimum on average. More than likely you're not reaching that much per month. Like they have said the water weight will also play into it. The most you can theoretically gain in a year is approximately 34 lbs of lean body weight. And that is the maximum.

Why not?
Under the BEST possible circumstances (training, diet, supplementation, recovery) the average male body can create between *0.25 and 0.50* pounds of dry muscle tissue per week. That's the natural amount that your body chemistry will allow.
So your looking at 1-2 pounds of dry muscle each month. Not much? Well consider what your body will look like in 12 months from now with an extra 12-24 pounds of muscle?!?!

Exaxtly! You said under the best cirumstances. So you need
1.) A amazing diet
2.) Great gentics
3.) an awesome workout
4.) lots of knowledge
in order to gain up to 1 maybe 2 lbs. a month!!! Lets say you have/do all that thats 12 pounds a year in the best circumstances. And its nearly impossible to pull all that off every single week. So like I said 10-12 pounds. Score one for the realistic team!!!

Score one for someone who will never get there.
I have a great diet, awesome genetics, great workouts, enough knowledge to make anything work or fix it or w/e
so yeah

Dude I have done stuff ike that 9 pounds in 3 months! But it only happened once, and after unbelivable ahrdwork. Telling someone who is naturally 6 foot and 120 that he can expect 24 pounds by years end is just crap.

He doesn't know until he tries is my point. Plus, we're assuming he changes his diet.

Based on your stats it seems like you're an ectomorph. You're going to need to literally stuff yourself with food and put forth 100% effort in the gym in order to get where you want to be. I think the most important thing for you will be perseverence. Stay dedicated to achieving your goal even if the progress seems slow at first. Good luck.

nah. BB is good because he'll become confident and then people will stop saying **** cuz he'll stand up for himself.
He'll also look better, feel better physically and learn ****.
I say yay for BB, not nay.

You are incredibly stupid... negged
Noob gains, do you even comprehend how much muscle mass sommeone can put on when they just begin? If this kid knows wha hs doing and is consitentyly going heavy on linear progression (rippetoes) then he will have som rodiclous weight gain provided hes eating enough an more.
Ive seen guys gain 3 pounds a week consitently for close to 6 weeks and keep a 6 pack.

Don't worry about eating clean for now, just eat lots of food, drink weight gainers, go heavy with the weights etc etc. Read as much as you can on the forums and look at the stickys, absorb as much useful information as possible.
You don't have to get in a fight to stand up for yourself. If your getting people saying **** about you, just say **** back and try and carry yourself in a more confident manor.
Good luck with the mass gain. Be sure to take some before pictures so you can monitor your progress and post in the post pictures section so people here can help you along the way. I've gone from 140lbs to 190lbs pretty lean, and to be honest i was just as confident at 140lbs as i am at 190. Confidence starts in your head, not your body.
All the best.

what the **** is this ****? that's not including glycogen stores right? which is obviously going to add weight. i've gained 5lbs of LBM in 7 weeks, i guess i'm superhuman, or you guys are wrong. : >
now because everyone's read that T-nation article they think it's impossible to gain more than 2lbs a month. we're teenagers who are new to lifting and have a silly amount of test flowing around. we should obviously be able to do more than 2lbs a month.

i suppose you could also factor in growth spurts if the BB is lucky enough to have one im sure this would help muscle gains

for the past 3 years, i was underwieght for my age, but my hieght was pretty damn high for my age, due to a freak growth spurt.
but i started working out, and 2 years later, im not twiggy anymore, but still godamn lanky.
hopefully, in a years time, the OP will not be alot better than in the past.
its all about time and dedication.

ya and since we are teens i think we'd be really close to .5lbs a week
and on top of the close to 24lbs of muscle you got 12lbs of water weight, and probably 6-12lbs of fat
stick with it dude you can have very good gains in your first year

Its true. When i started off i did it right.
Noob gains + 6 meals a day + whey/casien protein = 36 pounds in 6months.
At 6 foot 148.5pounds to 184.5pounds. With no significant VISIBLE increase in fat.
