Ya'll all should be really proud of your accomplishments. I have one little question though. I would like to get rid of 80 lbs or so. I was wondering if there was a lot of loose skin on the stomach. Has anyone had to have a tummy tuck or did everything eventually tighten up. I am so scared it is going to be like having weight reduction surgery with all of the loose skin.

The only place I have any kind of loose skin is in my triceps area, and I think that most of that is actually just remaining fat that will decrease as I get closer to where I should be, body-composition-wise.
From what I understand, a lot of factors can determine how much loose skin one has after a substantial weight loss. How quickly you lose the weight is a big one; very rapid loss can result in the skin's taking a good long time to "catch up", if it ever does. Also, one's age has a lot to do with it, as well as whether you tan or smoke. And of course, the usual crapshoot of genetics.
I know some ladies who've had to have tummy tucks, as well as a few who simply deal with the skin. They all say--and I agree--that it's a lot better and healthier to have excess skin than excess fat. After all, clothes hide a multitude of sins.
Hope this helped.

I personally have not lost that kind of weight but my gym partner Cassi has. As of July 2007 Cassi has lost 150 lbs! We met at the gym and hit it off right away. Since then we work out 5 times a week together helping each other with our diets and support when we want to cheat! She is the best and her determination is what keeps me going. She is my inspiration!!!

I lost 80 lbs or so, most of it in late 2002-early 2004. Since then it's been mostly maintainence, a little gaining, and now I want to REALLY tone up my body. Years later I still have the loose skin in some areas, sich as the very bottom of my abdomen, the backs of my arms, my sides, and breasts. However, even that has improved over time.
Here are some before and after pics.
The first is me at 200 lbs.
The second is me now.

Well, I'm down 117 pounds and as you can see from my avatar, I have a little on the tummy area, but it has gone down significantly and it will continue to tighten up as I lift heavy and eat a clean diet.

Honestly my tummy is not great. Stretched and loose but as one of the posters above said it is a small price for the MULTITUDE of every day benefits of losing weight.
Just yesterday (I made a blog post about it) I had a blood test and for the first time I can remember I didn't have to get jabbed half a dozen times or arm bruised up with them trying to find a vein. and thats just one small thing - there are lots!
I try to keep up moisturizing. Arms are pretty good, as I become leaner I think I may have some issue with my thighs but I am hopeful they will tighten. Oh and bear in mind I've had two babies too so that has definitely had impact on the tummy skin.

Sold fat becomes squishy???????????????
Hey Ladies!! I've just read all the messages, and would like to say hello to EVERYONE, and thank you ALL for sharing your stories, helpful suggestions, or just stopping by to provide support.
Ok..I have a question: Normally when I pick up my skin, the fat feels solid(for lack of a better word), now it feels softer and more squishy. Is that a sign of loose skin on the way, or does this normally happen all over the body as you begin to lose the pounds? It's making me a little nervous. lol It hasn't been 8 weeks yet, so it seems too soon for loose skin. Miss T

Miss T: That happened to me, too! My formerly solid fat had gotten squishy, it's so weird. I had heard, somewhere way back when, that as you lose fat that it's a normal part of the process. It indicates that the fat is loosening up and getting "ready to go" so to speak. That could be totally wrong and I wish I could remember where I read it...! I'm sure some of the other ladies on this thread have experienced it.

I have had that happen periodically. As the above poster said its not about skin but I think that it is about you body using fat as fuel (what we want baby!) and its like its structure is changing. I find it gets that loose feel and for me can re-firm up in even just a day or two - hopefully smaller! I find it especially noticeable the changing feel during cardio or sometimes when I have worked my legs especially hard (I don't seem to notice the cottage cheese type change anywhere else except my legs or butt). When its loose like that you can almost feel the fat moving over the muscle. Gross I know! I use it as motivation to be even more diligent in my nutrition and training since it works like forward momentum for me - you're on the right track!
Best wishes!

My friend Fitnessdiva over on the o2 board calls this "jello" fat. Her theory is that what was once solid fat, becomes more "liquid" once we start moving and exercising again. That's why in my first sets of progress pictures I suddenly had a waist again but my stomach measurements didn't change at all.

Moria, headpickle, and Angelfish...thank you ladies so much for responding to this question. I was begining to freak out over here. The texture is DEFINITELY changing, and I'm not too crazy about it. However, now that I understand it's most likely loosening up before getting burned off(wasn't sure), that's a good sign. Very happy about that. It's much softer around my waist, so I hope to drop more inches soon. I measured yesterday, and my waist is a 38 now, which is good news. Thanks again everyone. Miss T

i dont know if this is going to help..but...
what worked for me was finding a focus point...anything about me eating that was negative and what it was doing to me and fix it.
example: tons of sugar = migraines.....yucky.. and being in medical school now i cannot afford to be sick or not feeling well....im in a hospital for days at a time for godsake (for those wondering..we have a gym and the hospital)!! now, my progress is not as good as these ladies....only 10 pounds so far but hey 10pounds in a month? im not gunna complain! i hope this helped you at least a little bit....i guess long story short is you have to want to change! your body is an amazing machine!! your enteric nervous system (think of it as a branch of the nervous system that deals with digestion) will thank you in the long run...as will your liver, kidneys, heart, just about everything in your body. it will take time, longer than it does to put that weight on (aint that a bitch?) but you will get there!!!

I may not be female, But I've lost well over 100lbs.
It started when I was 15 and went to the Doctor's office to have a nerve on my heart cauterized(sp?). I had to get weighed as part of an exam. I weighed 305.
I had been working at Sonic for about 4 months when this happened. It was great, all the Dr.Pepper I could drink followed by all the fatty food I could ever eat. I was loving it, until I saw my weight was 305.
So after that, I stopped eating fatty, high carbohydrate, high empty calorie foods and started eating a Salad with lots of grilled chicken every day and switched to drinking unsweet tea and water only. I lost 120lbs over the course of a year doing that.
But I also got into supplements and weight training at that time.
I started running in preparation for joining the Army and that helped keep the weight off.
Currently, I'm back up to 220 and 11.2% bodyfat.
It's all about having goals, though. My goal was getting into the Army and not being fat for once in my life.
But be realistic in setting goals. You're not going to lose 100lbs+ in 4 months. Keep it simple in your diet and don't listen to everyone else. Find something that works for you and stick with it.
High protein/low carb diets aren't going to work for everyone.

Congratulations 82nd_Fister on all you've accomplished, and for offering such sound advice. Most importantly, I commend you on doing all the above at such an early age. Very impressive. Psalm 40th is one of my favorites as well. Thank you for sharing your story. Miss T

Thank you so much for starting/contributing to the post. I lost 90lbs thru a mostly vegan regular diet change(still eat fish once a while). Was getting a bit nervous about the sagging skin but to be honest I have a bf of 35%, recently started weight/cardio training & have to beg myself to keep up with my water intake. Hopefully by doing this properly with diet, physical training and moisturizing, some of the sagging will ease up? Still though I'd rather have saggy skin then to have massive migraines and not be able to climb step without breathing hard again? Thanks for the motivation ladies! You're a class act.

Another success story...120 lbs lost
Hey Ladies, one of our bb.com members, Erin, told me about an amazing success story. Tracey aka Arieseyes, lost 120 lbs, and her story was featured in oxygen magazine. She's done a wonderful job, and I wanted to share with others. Ok ladies...let's work our butts off. We continue to see it can be done. No excuses!! Miss T
