No other ladies joining in the fun?
Is there any other halfway accurate way to measure bodyfat without calipers or water? I would like to go for the percentage challenge but, here in the boonies I don't know if I can find a way to measure weekly.

Me!!!! Me!!!!!!
I'm in!
It's for 4 months, right?
I am currently at 187. My ultimate goal is 150, but it will be hard to lose 37 lbs in 4 months 'cause I've been losing for a long time.
So ...
Lose 20 lbs
Go down 10% in BF (I am currently at 36.5%)
Lose 10 inches total
Is that reasonable?

Clay, there are a few other ladies. There are also some decent online bodyfat calculators that are based on measurements. WHile they have a margin of error (as does every method except autopsy), as long as you stick with the same one, you should get accurate trending results. I'll try to poke through my "favorites" and see if I can find one of the better links. Or maybe someone else will chime in here...

Sounds good, Penny. It works out to 17 weeks, so you only need to lose a little more than 1 pound per week for your goal. Go, go, go!!

Count me in! I need to get back on track and this could be just the thing I need for extra motivation.
I'll be competing in the bodyfat reduction category. I will take measurements, pictures, and calc bodyfat on Friday. Or does CG have to do the calcs to keep it official? What about the measurements? hehe
I am probably at about 23% now, though the handheld analyzer said 21 yesterday. I am guessing measuremenets are a better way to go? What would be a good goal to drop in that lenth of time, 5%?
Great idea for this contest!
Darren

Lowcarbdiets - uses age, sex, height, weight and measurements at waist, neck, and (women only) hips. My results = 26.8%
Don't understand how it could be that big of a difference? Should I just pick one and use as a guide for seeing if I'm loosing BF?

Awwww! I love you!! I could send lingerie photos or nudies to the winner. Ha,ha -- just kidding!!
I would join, but my weight hardly ever changes and I don't want to lose any. My body does this weird thing where my body weight stays the same, but my body fat goes way upwards if I'm being a piglet and way downwards if I'm behaving.
Plus, my cut ends right before Thanksgiving, at which time I plan to enjoy the holiday season through January 3rd. Yum, yum.

I have made a ruling on those of you under 35 who wish to compete.

We have had various contest like that in the past and I am sure we will have them again. I think we have done arms, back, abs and shoulders, so my guess is the next contest will be a leg one.
For you my guess is that the bf lost percentage category will be best to help you meet your needs.

At the gym they used an Omron, and the result was 36.5%. That sounds most logical according to what I see in the mirror. I will see if they'll let me use that weekly for this contest.

I will go tomorrow and see if I can find some calipers at the GNC or the health food store..If so I will enter the BF section..otherwise it will be simply weight loss as my tanita could read me at 30% today and 15% tomorrow....on second though I'd be an easy winner.....right?

I'm in with my first post. Started a few weeks ago and will update my bodyspace log with measurements on Saturday. Hoping to earn the * next to my name for the under 35'ers. Starting measurements and pic's on Saturday since I won't be able to get them on Friday. My major goal is to make it under 200 and see what happens from there.

I think that all that matters is that you use the same tool each time. The Omron is awful for me -- it's never recorded me as anything less than 20%, which is way off. But if you find it accurate for trending, go for it. Personally, I think measurements are better because even if the translation to BF isn't spot on, you are still getting a really good gauge of progress. Losing inches off your waist or abdomen, for instance, can only be fat loss -- there's no muscle there!

Oh, you got THAT right
I will use tape measurements for bodyfat % then. That will kill 2 birds with one stone. I'm all for making it simpler!
