Anyone with fibromyalgia...
I have noticed that my muscles feel tight all of the time since I have started working out. Instead of taking a day off, should I use that day and incorporate some sort of stretching exercises, or does that defeat the purpose of weight training? I have never been real flexible to start with, so I was just curious.
Thanks.

Just curious, how do you know that you have fibromyalgia?
I also have chronically tight muscles, and the way I deal with it is by doing a very extensive full body mobility warmup prior to each and every workout. It can take as long as an hour...I go until I'm ready.
Does the severity of your symptoms increase when it gets cold?

Three different doctors with the same conclusions. I can only take their word. When someone touches your legs and arms and there is pain enough to bring you to your knees, you just kind of take the doctor's word on that one. As far as the cold, I have hypothyroidism, cold hurts period. I don't even put ice in my drinks.
So, that may be the cause of my soreness, it could just be old age. Either way, I am hoping that getting in shape and eating right will cure all of this garbage and I can just visit with my doctor for the fun of it (he's kind of nutty), and save a few bucks on medications.

I Have Fibromyalgia
I do believe you have Fibromyalgia. People who don't have it don't understand what you are going through. My husband for one thinks doctors call it this just to shut us up. I try not to complain to my husband about my pain. First I recommend you get on a good mineral supplement. I take Isagenix Ionix drink everyday. The one thing we lack are minerals. I also take a host of calcium, magnisum and a B complex. When I first started up with this I was going to the gym everyday at and had been for years. One day I went home actually sick feeling and felt like I had the flu. After laying down for awhile it subsided. This continued to the point where I had to quit going to the gym. I would get so tired in the afternoon with the same feeling I would have to take a break and lay down. I have always gone 100 miles an hour with no stopping. This was frustrating for me. It took 3 years of suffering like this before someone diagnosed me. I had Epstein Barr and Fibromyalgia both. Most people who have Fibromyalgia have Epstein Barr. I asked the doctor what should I do. He said drink lots of fluids and get plenty of rest. I was already doing this. So I had to take my health into my own hands and do research on it. There is a lot of information on the net for Fibromyalgia. Just type in alternative help for Fibromyalgia. Don't let the doctors give you drugs as they are just a cover up for your symptoms. Don't stop going to the gym but just don't over due it. I'm going to tell you what made the biggest difference in my life was, I quit eating sugar and white flour products. I couldn't even step out of bed or get up from a sitting postition without so much pain in my feet. It wasn't a week before I noticed I didn't have any pain in my feet any more. Your health is up to you. Make sure your eating clean and make sure you eat lots of veggies. I can't get enough in so I power juice. I have a really nice juicer I love it really gives me lots of energy. I am 46 years old now and my job as an IT I have to lift heavy computers and monitors quite often. I wont let Fibromyalgia control my life, I'm going to control it. You do the same and hang in there please don't give up because there are sooo many people out there in your shoes and there are more getting it everyday.
Blessings, Cori onebadsts

Stretching is beneficial to weight training and I'd imagine stretching on your off days would be helpful for you. Have you tried yoga? A gentle yoga practice might be the perfect compliment to your situation - easing tight muscles and helping you relax and destress.

I don't think my body will let me bend like that, at least not without an ambulance standing by. But, I have been doing stretches like trying to find my toes, found my calves, have not seen them in awhile other than shaving. Man, am I pale. Maybe I will be able to find an extreme beginners site.
I have found that exercise and lots of water have helped tremendously. I do not hurt nearly as bad.
Thanks for the advice, really appreciate it!!!

Thanks for the info. I am going to look into this. It would be nice to be flexible again.
