Big congrats on the race - you finished well!!!!
Ooooh Microbiology...as you know that's my favorite subject. It is not over your head in the least - just a lot of taxonomy to memorize. Let me know if I can help! You learn about critters you probably never knew existed (and in some cases, didn't want to know about, either). The labs are a blast. Wait till you start culturing stuff

Hi everyone
I'm sorry I haven't posted much lately. I'm not feeling the greatest actually and have sunk into a bit of a depression over the past week or so.... I'm very tired which is probably a lot of the problem....

After my half last fall, the same thing happened to me. I can't say if that's what's happening with you because, well, I won't pry, but I had put so much effort into my training that when it was over, I felt the aftermath of my excessive WOs. I fell into a slump for a while, during which I didn't want to train at all. Felt drained of energy and had no willpower to move really. I was told it was overtraining... but who knows. Maybe you just need to take a break from it all.
Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks for the messages girls.... no, I still have the half to go, Sunday was just a little warm up!
I miss my old body.... and I think that has a lot to do with it.... while my legs are looking better than ever, the rest has gone to **** and I am starting to feel very uncomfortable...

Hi Lou Lou, I'm sorry you are feeling down about you Um, did you feel the same way when you were at Port Douglas? Cause it was only a few weeks ago and you could not possibly have gone to pot since then?!! I hope you've got some time in your preparation for the half to have a few days break from all the training.....so you can curl up and cuddle Mark and or Toby and eat warm oats Hugs Lou Lou x

I'm sorry to hear that, but I do understand it, buddy.
Just remember, you're an incredible runner. You've been hitting great speeds and long distances!! A very important accomplishment. Your body is very strong, very remarkable.

Hey Lou...sorry you are having a rough time. Make sure you look for the everyday stuff that breaks you out of the cycle, ok? Goofy kitty
poses, pretty scenes along your run, those calves you were loving the other day...you know what I mean, right? Those things depression makes you blind to, so all you see is the negative, ugly stuff. I've learned that this is actually a neurological change caused by lack of sleep + depression! Only so much you can do on the sleep front with school and all, though.
Random question, do you find your moods to be strongly influenced by the seasons?

Unfortunate news
I have avoided posting this for a week on the hope it wasn't true....
Last Thursday I saw my physio for the 3rd time and he concluded my shins were not responding to treatment, and in fact, worsening and sent me off for a bone scan.
As you know, I ran last Sunday's race with no pain and no post-race pain. But on Wednesday, I attempted a 10km run and had to stop at the 5km mark due to pain - the first time I had actually had to stop due to pain.
I had the scan yesterday and it confirmed I have stress fractures across the front of both tibia (shins).
I am devastated The only treatment for stress fractures is absolutely no running for at least 6 weeks. I had decided that if I wasn't in pain, I was going to run the 1/2 anyway but now I am in pain, it just isn't worth it. I could do serious damage and end up in a cast.
I am very disappointed - all those hard, long runs in the cold and dark - I trained my little butt off. Sadly, it's not to be!
Fortunately, I CAN return to full time bodybuilding which I have been really looking forward to doing. I miss my BBing body. I can lift, cycle and swim, but I can't do anything with too much impact, even too much walking, for a little while at least. I will be back into lifting with a vengeance and will live on the spin bike.
So yep... that's that. I'm sorry I haven't posted much this week. I have had a crazy week... I promise to be around more soon!
