When I first started lifting it was definately hard for me to eat protein too -- I was a CARB girl!! I started adding a little in and eventually really like protein! I know you want some quick and easy options so here are my suggestions:

1) Protein pancakes or waffles (if you have a maker) -- they are good the next day -- about 6 egg whites mixed with a scoop of protein powder and about a 1/2 cup oats -- splenda and cinnamon to taste -- mix in a blender and then cook on a non-stick skillet!! They are really good -- you can put SF syrup on them and I even like them cold!
2) Homemade spring rolls -- they are good the next day too and are low carb with protein -- get rice paper at an oriental grocery -- put them in hot water for about 40 sec. till pliable -- then pile up the goodies (I like them with shrimp, lettuce, avocado, carrots) -- and roll them up
3) Have you tried pork? It is pretty lean and tend to taste better the next day to me than chicken
4) Alright last one -- Fat Free Ricotta cheese mixed with splenda -- I cut up a medium apple and put cinnamon and splenda on the apple and dip it!! It actually tastes really good and Ricotta is pretty high in protien and a good alternative to cottage cheese!

Hope this helps
Thanks so much for the suggestions! I will certainly try that! I have actually never tried Ricotta cheese...maybe I'll like it!

First off, good work on everything, GermanGirl. I think your leg stats look pretty good for your ht/wt. Keep it up. I used to be an XSport member as well, wonder if we ever ran into each other. I also have a question, for you or any one else. What protein powders work best for women? Does it matter or is it goal specific? I don't want to give the wrong advice to someone who asked me. Thanks.

Thanks Mace27!
How long where you at XSport? I started there in August.

Protein powders? I have just used GNC 100% whey and the GNC whey and gluatamine/amino acids. Just from reading previous posts, it seems like that a lot of people don't like GNC as much. A lot of people use Optimum Gold Standard, I believe. I might switch after I am done with my current one. I like 100% whey, 22g. For me, too much or too many other things in it, makes me feel sick. But that's just me.

I was there for most of 2003 thru 2005 so I guess we never crossed paths. I ended up quitting because it got to be sooooo packed. Especially on Mondays. I'm not sure what location you use, but I was at the North Ave spot. I think the overcrowdedness and the fact that half the people sat on machines and talked on their cell phones is what drove me away.

ON Gold is good stuff, that's what I've been using the past couple years. Chocolate is my fave, though strawberry is pretty good too. I just wasn't sure if you were using a soy or whey, if you've experimented with both/either, etc. Also, if you're looking for a good place to pick things up around town and want to save some bucks compared to GNC, check out Vitamin Shoppe. They're prices are much better than GNC's. I go to the one at Clark and Diversey, but I know there are others surrounding the city as well.

Keep up the good work, I'll check in periodically to see how you're doing.

I go there to0! I totally agree with the crowdedness! It was awful yesterday! I couldnt even do my complete lift because there were literally a million people in the gym. Very irritating.

So my only other option then is to go at 5am..which I did this morning. pretty tough. I can also go later at night..but I hate that too. haha.

where do you go now?

Yeah, I'll probably stick with chocolate and whey. I have not tried soy. But I like whey and I think it's doing its job

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to check it out!

Yes, Monday's were always the worst days to go. I made sure my workout schedule never involved a Monday after being a member there. I was at LP Fitness for a while but now I'm at Formula Fitness. It seems pretty nice. Good equipment, not nearly as busy as XSport - especially on Mondays. But definitely check out Vitamin Shoppe (or just buy stuff online). The prices GNC charge, it truly makes me wonder how they can have a store on every other corner in town! You can always PM me if you have any specific questions as well.

a new start

and by "doing doing so well"....i mean doing NOT so well....frankly quite awful.

However....I am ready again. After literally, let me think, March, April, May, June, July....now August....of maybe working out 1-3 times at most and eating bad....etc. etc.....I am officially ready to get back into it. I am not sure what happened...but I am starting to feel depressed from not going to the gym, I think. I still dont get that "I can't wait to go to the gym" feeling...but at least I have a little bit more motivation.

In March I weighted 117 pounds and was pretty fit, at least I think so (check out the bikini pics on my profile)...and now I am 125 pounds.....and look okay...I still have ab definition, didnt really go up a dress size or anything...but I just dont feel great at all.

So I am so ready to get back into it. I need a goal though...I just dont know what I am training for...I know it is to be healthy and fit..but I guess that is too vaque of a goal. I would do a competition or maybe fitness modeling but haha..that is a scary thought...

I think I will log my food again in fitday...however, it doesnt take sugar into consideration. Isn't that bad?

Today was my first day of my rejunvenation. It is going quite well so far. I will log my food right now and then write it down.

Hey there! welcome back! I hope you get your motivation back too. I find it helps to read others journals, hearing them talk about the gym and lifting and achieving goals makes me feel like I can do it too!

As for your diet, you look a little low. I think you need to up your fats a bit, healthy fats, add some nuts or good oils, and a bit more protein, but since you are just starting out, I'd ease into it. Also, you should have a fast absorbing carb after your workout.

Hey, thanks SexyBack!!! Yeah, reading other journals has really helped a lot. I will have more time soon to concentrate on all this stuff so I am looking forward to that.

I just got some fish oils and more nuts, so hopefully that will help

Thanks again for your input

lack of structure = trouble

Past couple of days has been decent.

Monday's diet was a little chaotic...same as today..because I no longer have a full-time job..and basically have all this freetime...however..it makes it almost harder to keep a good diet because there is less structure. But soon my new work will start so that won't be much on an issue anymore.

Today I didnt eat enough or very clean because I had interviews all day and was running around the city (I know, no excuses)

1. Non-fat starbucks latte (small/tall) 9:00am
Flax bar with light cream cheese (I looked up up the nutritional value on that and it is actually not that bad, it has lots of fiber!). I would say it is much healthier than a bagel.

2. 2:00pm..... Corner Bakery tuna salad on WW bread. Only ate half the sandwich, ate no chips, (did have a diet soda).

3. 6pm...other half of tuna sandwich, and about 10 almonds.

4. A bowl of nonfat milk + low-fat, high fiber cereal (about 1 cup) 8pm

5. Of course, I was still hungry at 9:45pm....so I had a esekiel bread muffin with sugar free raspberry preserves.

I know this wasn't a great diet at all..but I tried to eat at least somewhat healthy things at the places I was forced to eat. I really need to record better what I eat.

At the gym I did about 20 minutes of internal training, and then about 30 minutes of ab work.

Tomorrow, I will workout legs. And eat better
