Chest Question

Do I need a lift that simulates the peck deck motion in my work out?

Reason I ask: I have some discomfort with this motion, even with lighter weight. If I only did bench, decline, incline, pushups. All up and down motions nothing "squeezing" the chest together would this have a detrimental affect on my overall look if i'm wanting a defined chest?

Decline aint comfy for me at all

Stick with simple movement, avoids ones that are hard.

Often incline barbells and dumbells are more comfy

no. of course you'll get all manner of different responses as to what is the best way to stimulate the chest. the truth is there's no defined absolute best answer to the question of what are the best exercises to define the chest.

but you're asking whether or not your chest development will be affected in a negative way. and the answer to that is definitely "no".

for what it's worth, i do flat bb bench press, incline db press and dips.

I wouldn't think it would be "detrimental."

Try cables, or dumbbell flies, they are both good squeezing exercises, and may mitigate your discomfort.

hey man,

I can only offer a few suggestions, give them a try and see how they feel as everyone is different and it may discomfort you or may prove ineffective. In addition to barbell and dumbbell bench press, id do inclines both barbell and dumbbell and rotate between them and id definitely consider cable crossovers, as they are a great chest builder (in most cases) and offer shoulder development as well as back. Experiment with the grips to find a perfect balance for yourself and hopefully this will help you in trying to find a replacement movement for the peck deck. Goodluck and keep experimenting.

Kind Regards,

Robert Murphy.
