hard to deal with diet AND people's opinions on it

Do you all get so frustrated dealing with losing weight AND people around you, such as, family and friends telling you all the time that you're obsessed and totally consumed and you're always in the kitchen cooking blah blah blah?? My mom, especially, has been giving me SO much crap every single time I eat and it's so hard to deal with that PLUS worrying about losing weight. Like today my mom screamed at me saying how i'm always eating (5 meals is not always..) and made me get out of the car and walk like 2 miles home. And it's funny because she's going back to school to be a nutritionist and tells me how I'm crazy and don't need a post work out meal or breakfast. It's just SOO frustrating how ignornant people are and how they think they're so right and it's such a pain to deal with. I'm almost there too...just one more month and then DONE but it's so hard dealing with people around me. Anyone else getting REALLY frustrated with this?

Our society is becoming more and more comfortable with being average and the average is becoming more and more obese. Health conscience people like us are the Talented Tenth of our society. As long as you stay focused on your goals, the people around you will either gain inspiration from your results and choose to change themselves, or they'll let their jealousy keep them from seeing how good their lives could be if they made the same changes in their lives.

I'm in a similar situation haha.

I just try to ignore it, at the end of the day if someone ridicules me for being healthy, they're an idiot. I suspect some of it is jealousy too. Not that I'm superior to anyone, but I'm extremely dedicated (obsessed?) and motivated.

Keep up the good work :P

These days I'm the one dishing out the abuse.

Mom only seems to eat carbs, swear at least 90% of her diet is carbs and when I bitch at her she says "I ate protein earlier, I had yogurt at breakfast and lunch." Jeezus...

Last time I saw my dad (I live across country) walked up to hug him then poked my finger into his stomach and said "Woo-hoo!" like the Pillsbury doughboy. He laughed, then grabbed my arm to feel the bicep and said "Oh good, it took you 30 years but you finally grew some muscles, now I have some heavy **** I want you to move for me." ... D'OH!! lol

I can't give them too much crap though, both of them were seriously fit in their prime. Mom was a damn powerlifter and took home a state title and dad competed in triathalons so they know why I do what I do.

i just ignore them. my family is overweight and i'm still overweight. so when i hear them talk trash about eating this or that, i used to get real pissed off and begin arguing with them about how they're not qualified to give me advice much less how misinformed they are. and they would live vicariously through my weight loss. just got to lay the buck down sometimes or just ignore them.

Same boat. Everytime I eat I always hear "Should you be eating that'' or "Is that part of your diet". I ignore her because I'm losing weight and she can't drop a lb. So I laugh about it. I always tell her when she drops the weight then she can come ask me ? like that. When your goes to school she will find out so don't worry. Not everybody is the same. What works for u won't work for her.

I'm confused at why she made you walk home. Because you are eating too much and she wanted you to walk to lose weight, or because she just put you out the car because of anger? Just curious. I think when your mom goes back to school she will have a better understanding of your lifestyle. In the meantime don't let anyone stop you from reaching your goals.

she says how shes fed up with me and how I annoy her and everyone around me especially with cooking a lot. So i guess she kicked me out of the car because she's "fed up" with me. I don't know. All I care about is being in shape and I don't care what anyone thinks about me or if i'm somehow annoying people...i mean i clean the kitchen up after myself so WHATEVER

Are you spending your own money on the food you cook and eat? Seems a bit harsh for her to kick you out the car because you cook a lot.

I don't bother explaining what I'm doing anymore. Seems like everytime you take your lunch out somewhere or you refuse something or so people start wondering what's wrong with you.
Well, if there's something wrong with me that's just fine by me. Try explaining what a low carb day is and why you're eating eggs and chicken like a madman to someone that hasn't really figured out what protein is.
If I refuse something these days it's because "I don't feel like it" or "It's not my cup of tea".

That scale and caliper is the pat in the back you need, that and the extra looks you're getting or going to get.

:-O Fairfax! Wierd, that's where I live! Where did you go to school?

Your mom sounds crazy. Don't worry though, I get a lot of crap for doing keto and IF, I mean a LOT. But keep yourself well-read and educated, and then if you ever feel the need to argue, you'll know what to say.

I live in AL, next to my in-laws. Everyone always ask me "why are you always drinking shakes" or " you need to eat something healthy"...I guess eggs and chicken are bad for you according to them. One day, I had enough and kinda bitch her mom out in front of everyone. I walked into her work and she offered me some pizza, and I said no. Then she offered me a burger, and again I said no. She asked why and I said I'm on a diet. She went off "why the hell do you need to lose weight? You are already skinny enough, pizza is good for you because it has carbs". I told her "Look at you, look at your husband, look at your whole family...you guys are ALL overweight. If I ate what you wanted to me to eat, I'd be fat just like the rest of your family".

Let's just say she doesn't talk to me anymore when I'm eating, or when I'm "not eating" haha

Classic

But yeah, my wife has a hard time with me eating better. The thing that really helped me was sitting her down and saying. "I don't expect you to do this with me. I am only doing this as a personal challenge to myself. I love you for exactly who you are and that will never change."

I went to flint hill...the public school i would have gone to was woodson so you've prob heard of that. I dunno I don't argue with people about nutrition anymore because I feel like everyone has a certain mindset where what they're doing is working for them so if you say something contrary to what they believe they don't listen and say something like "well you're not a nutrionist so you don't know what you're talking about" blah blah. I know what you mean dude, I live with my grandparents and my grandma thinks she is an expert on nutrition when she really has no idea. It gets really annoying sometimes! I try to ignore it as much as I can, I usually just say thanks for the advice Doctor lol

Ouch! lol

I think it's worse in the South. Everyone has such a misconception of what's healthy and what's not b/c no southern food is really healthy. The other day a lady I work with tried to convince me that fried okra wasn't bad b/c it was a veggie.

Dude, f*** those people. Friends and relatives will do almost anything to keep you fat to make *themselves* feel better about their crap diets. To make matters worse, unless you have HUGE muscles or are pretty lean, chances are, they won't even notice your progress.

My relatives would often comment on my 'weird' diet, how 'skinny' I am, or worry about me walking around the city by myself. I'd reply "I'm almost 200 pounds!" and they'd look at me like I was crazy. Can't wait to hit 10% BF and shut their overweight mouths up. I can imagine it now; "Where did those muscles come from? You aren't doing steriods, are you?"

You can't worry about people like this.

My family seems to listen to my words like I'm always right. I've researched a lot into working out and proper dieting and they consider me to have a wealth of knowledge on dieting and working out for all different kinds of objectives. It sucks though sometimes because my dieting never lines up with everyone elses, so if I want to eat a home cooked meal or something they don't really consider what I can and cannot eat.

I used to, but in my experience it gets better with time, especially when you've been at it a while and the people closest to you can see the results. But it's probably something you will have to learn to live with because I think it is just a natural reaction from certain people.

Still after 7 years or so my wife still occasionally gets frustrated and has a go at me for spending too much time in the kitchen or not being 'easy' to feed (picky about what I eat) when we are out etc... I just remind her that I'm not only preparing my food, but breakfast for the kids. I also cook out dinner every night and our kids food on the weekends (and they eat a lot x5-6 times/day even though they are 5 and 3 (she deals with the 8 month old).

At the end of the day though you gotta do what's best for you. Believe me it's harder to ignore a spouse than a mother, assuming you are going to leave home eventually. Think of it as good practice for the future!

That was probably better...Robinson was HUUUUUUGE, it was easy to just get lost in the crowd, esp. since I was new my Junior year, I didn't really have time to make many close friendships. Where are you goin to college? I go to Radford, far far away from the NoVA traffic

Anyone else getting REALLY frustrated with this?

yea, of course, my dad keeps having heart attacks and eats fried food all the time anyway. He thinks its all genetics and takes zero responsibility for his health. Its frustrating but there is nothing I can do to convince him. People often get resentful when your healthy and lean and they are not. They dont want to do the work or exercise the discipline and take their own frustrations at weight loss out on people that do it successfully.

couple of things though..

1> your too old to be living at home

2> what do you mean your almost done?

the whole problem with diets is that they imply an ending, you should always eat well..
