Well consider yourselves lucky girls!
I can't EVER get my girlfriends to work out!
They are (were) lazy!
Yet another reason why I'm single and not looking, haha.

I get crap for the food thing as well, for what I eat and how often, use to bug me and gave me a complex, until those same people started saying "wow you look great, you've lost some major weight, how'd you do it" all I say is "I eat, workout and sleep." Kinda funny.

The trend is obvious.....those who put us down are generally quite insecure. It's like the bully on the playground who picks on others just to make himself feel better.
Ignore the ignorant. Works best for me.

I am so thrilled to see such an intelligent, witty, attractive young lady who is embracing her physical fitness and lifting weights. You truly set a great example for other young women and I remain one of your biggest fans.
The discipline involved in your routine will only serve you well later in life. As will those muscles when dealing with the lame college boys. Remember, don't let what happened to me happen to you! Stay healthy and you will never regret it.

People are dumb. These are probably the same folks eating three meals consisting of 1,500+ calories a day thinking it's healthy because that's what they were told by their parents & grandparents.

If it's any comfort to you DBS... they probably give you a hard time because they're ignorant enough to think that gigantic muscles just pop up overnight.
They're also probably the same idjits who accuse most guys who lift heavier than them (in the unlikely event they DO actually go to the gym seriously) of steriod use...
('y'know! If you keep using steriods yer nuts'll drop off!'.... 'not if I do my PCT properly!')

don't feed into man's insecurity and stop doing what's good for you. Criticism come from those who feel their ego is threatened by you---keep doing what pleases you and what's the best for YOU. If a guy cannot handle you being hot, he should either try to keep up or get out. My progress and physics had been interrupted and destroyed by man I dated---it's NOT WORTH IT.

Dana, I dont think you are getting it. You are FINE as hell, keep doing what your doing, you look great. Thats a part of this lifestyle, ignoring the ones who are weak and cannot go thru what we all do on here. There will always be someone who is trying to bring you down with them, wherever you go, ignore them. Personally, after being on here, I wont date a girl unless she works out and takes care of herself. Even if she lifts more than me .

Girls, Do guys give you a hard time because you lift weights?
I've personally never had an issue..usually the people i hang out with or have dated are like minded and are into fitness/bodybuilding. For those that aren't..i really don't bring it up unless they ask, as those that don't live my type of lifestyle, really can't relate and they most often have a different mentality than I do.

I don't mind women lifting weights, why would it even matter either way? On the other hand if they have too much muscle or they are too cut up it is unattractive to me. I don't have a problem with women like that though, they just aren't attractive in my opinion. It is good to see people do what they want though and not listen to everyone else.

Nah... sleeper... nothing more humbling than seeing someone wake up 10 minutes later, realising they've been put out to it by a girl...
Good move dropping the idjit DMBs... though, they do have some mighty fine burgers... I find it's the free refills on drinks that do me. It's like a buffet... you never realise how much you can consume until you realise you only have to pay once.

I haven't had many complaints about the way I look, virtually everyone I meet thinks its great that I have an actual physique. Most of the people I work with are severely overweight and I suspect they are a bit intimidated but that is okay, not many of us little old ladies can intimidate men.

That is just plain ridiculous if you are in 2 your body and your boyfriend does not appreciate it then maybe he is jealous. Just because you lift you dont have to be masculine.

it's fear and insecurity. if you're working out and trying to look good, your boyfriend's nervous cause he knows the better you look the more competition he's got. he's telling you to get fat so he can get lazy. he doesn't care if its good for your health or you feel better about yourself; he's just looking out for number 1, and number 1's not you.

The new gym I'm going to has a lot of very nice, supportive men there. A lot of them even offer to spot me.. and not in the "stare at you and drool" kind of way. The guy who gives me the most **** about it is my boyfriend. He thinks I should be doing cardio all the time!! When I'm teaching aerobic classes (usually 4-5x/week) that is my form of cardio, and he told me I still need to do extra cardio on the machines because the classes don't count??? wtf? I should probably dump him! Just a few nights ago I told him I wanted to compete in figure one day, and his **** hit the fan!!

I'm sure it all depends on the guy. I've always been very impressed with the women that actually take the time to wander over to the free weight section. I'm actually pretty surprised at some of the reactions you girls have come across. Guess there's all types out there...

I don't get any flack from the guys I work with but I get the sneaking suspicion they are kind of afraid of me. My BF is supportive of me lifting and we workout together. I live by this rule:

My husband is very supportive, it was all his idea in the first place. I can actually outlift him in powerlifting and he doesn't mind in the least. I'm even 5 years older! We workout together most of the time except when I work with my personal trainer. He doesn't mind me looking good, he would rather I be someone others were interested in rather than someoneone they weren't, if you know what I mean.
He is also in the best shape of his life so we are very happy with what weightlifting has done for us.

Thank you Heather. Your post made me smile. <3333
I do get criticized (jokingly) by mostly my family and sometimes my friends, but NEVER take offense to it....like they get surprised during my bulks when they see me eating plate-fulls of food. I take everything as a compliment, because it's showing them how dedicated I am and it tells me that my hard work is paying off (like my parents noticing my "man arms," for example ).
I'm a naturally small-framed, genetically skinny-fat girl, and I love doing what isn't expected of me - lifting hard and heavy like a man, tolerating pain and being immune to getting whipped while jumping rope, eating relatively large frequent meals (I really do have a huge appetite and will eat virtually anything), playing sports with boys and actually being able to keep up and whoop ass, boxing, etc. I love proving people wrong. While I may not look like I can do much, my performance proves otherwise. I've always been a bit of a tomboy yes, but it's far better than being a girly-girl cardio bunny who lifts little to no weights and gets herself involved in "Laguna Beach" esque drama everyday.
I would also like to say that I'm excited to watch your transformation (so if you see me as a frequent visitor on your bodyspace statistics, dass wah). I can already imagine you on the front page of the site and/or a stickied thread describing your journey. I genuinely believe you can reach your goals and am so stoked for it.

pfft. yeah guys (skinny ones in particular) used to give me a really hard time in my old gym...especially during the days of my obesity. they'd stare at me like saying: what are YOU doing up here?? go play with treadmills. oh and i get asked all kinds of questions by relatives like aren't i scared of looking all beefy and stocky? why'd i wanna get UGLY muscles and all that... grr.
now im in another gym where there are actually some serious bodybuilders and they understand my passion... and they also think its very refreshing to see a female bodybuilder in malaysia!! :-D sometimes i get a little sad when people ask "where are your six packs?" but oh well. im just a gal doing what i like to do...

I like girls who work out.
Showing that they have discipline, confidence, independence, are active and like to live life over all healthy. I couldn't not see a reason for a guy to give a girl hard time for working out, unless they are working out with a group of guys all the time and its a jealousy factor... *2 cents*
(plus it makes em look good too)
