New to lifting, have a question
Hello, new to the board.
Recently I bought a gym membership because I decided I want to build and tone my body.
I have a big question/concern about lifting...
I am 6'7", 193lbs (some fat, mostly love handle/lower back area), and have long arms, about 31 inches from the bottom of my palm to the top of my shoulder, is this a big disadvantage? So far it seems like it's very hard for me to bench-press anywhere near what someone of my weight should be able to bench. As opposed to something like a pull-down, which I seem to be able to do fairly easily (comparing myself to other people who have been going to the gym for a long time).
Same thing goes for push-ups, seems like because of my size I have ALOT more leverage resistance.
Does this make sense?
anyone else on this board near my height? How many push ups can you do?

I've new to lifting as well, but in my research and studying I remember reading that taller, longer limbed bodybuilders typically have a longer ROM than shorter men who have proportionally shorter arms. You have further to go than I do when you bench, seeing as how I am 5'11 165lbs. They say this contributes to men around my height because we still receive the same results with less work.

They say, what, contributes to men around your height? and why do you receieve the same results with less work?
Because you have a lower range of motion?

Shorter range of motion presents less distance I have to physically move the bar from extended to chest and back up. you have longer arms so its more of a challenge for you.

That's what I was thinking
Now to get a grasp on a decent set of goals for push ups and benching from someone near my height...

Just measure against yourself. You'll be working harder to get less weight up but dont worry about it. Thats your punishment for being 6' 7 you lucky bastard. :P

The taller you are the more proportionate your body will eventually look when your "complete"
people at 5 foot 8 and down look rather dwarfish when they get swole.. lol sorry shorties
