davesporty, you're not talking about the gym, right? You're talking about your golfing job where (one assumes) you actually know a little bit?

Good to know; I'll have to investigate this further. I've only read Trice and Beyer's works on the subject. They were boring reads, although they proved rather useful in manipulating certain people. To my mind psychology is somewhat sketchy in a number of sectors, which is why I've often opted for cognitive science when I want to learn more about the mind. My bias is mostly rooted in psychiatry, however.
In regard to the organizational stuff, though, from what I understand, sociology might be more useful given that so much organizational psych is rooted in Max Weber's stuff, but dammit, as an anthropologist, that's essentially academic treason, and I'm not a traitor.
In other news, I'm rapidly starting to hate writing applications essays, and I'm only through the first paragraph of one.

Dave, stop trying to engage in a real conversation with this f*ckstick. It could take years off of your life, and you don't have many left!

Negged/reported for making fun of my age.
I can't help myself. I have very few enemies in this world and I don't like it when I get a new one. A very common tactic in negotiations is to find some common ground and build from there. I am a huge golf fan. Yes, I laid on the couch all weekend and watched the US Open. My lawn is manicured to look like a fairway. I'm addicted to the sport though I don't get to actually play much anymore.
If I can't get a somewhat friendly conversation going about a gentlemanly sport like golf, I'll consider this a lost cause.

Perhaps it's my age, but I actually like it when I make a new enemy. It keeps things interesting. I thrive on conflict, though, and get bored when things are "good."
Of course, like you, I first like to see if I can make an alliance with this person since partnership works out better for the both of us than rivalry in most cases. I suppose prior to this alliance building stage, they are merely opponents. But, it's usually fairly obvious when there is nothing worth salvaging in a person, like...
To be fair, though, I've found that often times people have different personalities for different contexts. If BB.com were a battlefield or a ring, I'd meet the man in question (for fun, let's say DaveSporty), shake his hand, tell him: "may the better man win" but nonetheless assure him that I am indeed the better man before going at it. On the other hand, though, I can also share a pint with just about anyone and have a good time. Even people I would sooner... Well, I won't be that vulgar today.

At age 21, I too enjoyed the good fight, mentally speaking. I've never been much for physical encounters.

This is like a puzzle to me. I honestly cannot understand the reasoning behind one of the members here (name unspoken). It makes no sense. I can't stand unsolved puzzles.

Make no mistake, I am highly competitive. When I play a game, I play to win. Take Lencho, for instance. I can't out lift him, I can't out wit him. What I can do is get more body points than him!!! He doesn't even know we're playing this game!! I was a couple of thousand points behind him at one point and I'm catching up quickly!!

I relish a good scrap. My brother and I have this unspoken rule where if were arguing for more than five minutes or so and were clearly getting no where then we proceed to give each other lumps. The argument is settled, and both of us are wholly satisfied. It also counts as GPP.

Puzzles are the essence of my life. I'm a chronic insomniac because of them. I more or less have to figure out every question that comes my way.
Consider reading some Karl Popper if you haven't already. He's easily one of the best philosophers of the 20th century, but beyond ass-grabbing titles, he also posed the idea that at its core, science is about puzzle solving methodology, and that for the most part, what it means to be human is to solve puzzles. It definitely helps that he doesn't write like a philosopher, if you know what I mean.

That's the spirit! When the fight dies, so do you (or you might as well). What was it Arnold said again.. Something about staying hungry? I like that idea.

Heck - I train at home without a smith machine - just a basic rack, and I'll go heavy on squats and bench (as low as 3 reps but most of my heavy sets are for 5 reps). If you know your body, you won't get in trouble trying to do too much.

3) Lupinecat, this is totally off-topic (and a long-shot since I'm near-positive you'll never return to this thread), but what do you think of your PhD program? I ask because I'm considering applying to a PhD program in Australia myself, possibly within organizational psychology.[/QUOTE]
Phd is HARD but rewarding. I have learnt more about myself doing this line of study than I have ever before in my life... I have also managed to pick up some knowledge about Psych along the way My advice? Go for it!!!!! But org psych is the devils science...
And by the way guys, this thread has been more informative than I could have ever hoped... I have been given a profound insight into the inner most psyche of male bodybuilders and their insane, narcissistic, cruel and yet somewhat compelling sense of humor... and their preference for troll dolls, gay bands and wearing ladies bikini's.

So, you're a club pro, I presume? I always thought that would be a fun job but the best I could ever manage was a 5 handicap. No more than I play these days, I'm lucky to break 90.
So, after watching Tiger over the weekend wearing a form fitting shirt, there's been a lot of talk about golfers and weight training. People used to say that bulking was not good for the golf swing but it sure hasn't bothered Tiger any. What's your opinion of weight training for golf?

Fyi to everyone (sans dave) participating in this thread: I've been trying to rep everyone who has been negged by davesporty and/or gotten a few good zingers in on him. PM me if I missed you.
Also, it's come to my attention that at least a couple guys have gotten infractions over this nonsense. I think it's time to end the fun with davesporty and send a reasonable, well-written "expose" to the mods pertaining to davesporty and how ALMOST EVERY THREAD HE ENTERS ENDS UP IN A FLAME-WAR. Aside from the generally harmful misinformation he spreads, now he's whining about good members and getting marks on their records.
Enough is enough and I think it's just a matter of exposing this situation to the light.
So, those who were hit with infractions: Which mod is davesporty crying to now? I doubt it's Roxie since last time he tried that he ended up being humiliated when it was shown to her that HE started the e-fight he was whining about. I would expect at this point she's had enough of him; so I'm guessing it's some other poor mod.

Seriously... I think I've been more tame in here with Dave than I am anywhere else. It isn't that he isn't a bother, but honestly, he isn't the most entertaining or obnoxious person of under-bridge dwelling origin I have run upon.

Its just getting old...
I know very good members have got marks on there record for nothing. Not that these people are ever going to get to a point were they are permabanned or anything, but still...
I actually just asked the mod to speak to him about his posts.

Btw, if anyone else wants to write a letter to a mod - just point them to this thread. I'm going to go through and quote our friend, call it a low-light reel... (and the search only goes back to April, there is plenty of nonsense which is being over-looked here)

The Net is the best place to learn about anything but i also have my lecturers to teach me.
This is boring trying to defend my thoughts on protein etc... i dont think you respect peoples efforts to add constructive comments, you merely try to get one over on everyone.
Plus points to u for finding out where my last comment came from, are you happy now?

No really you have an attitude problem , and it's time you were told the way it is.
Made you feel tough eh?to take my green points away? that's the way you behave here, have fun.

I am helping the OP and not anyone else,it's a shame you didn't learn from your previous attacks on my person and accept that others know what they are talking about .
Also where does it say on the forum rules that you always have to state the source????
this is about helping others not stating where your knowledge comes from, this show how good me lecturers are.
now pick on someone else.i have nothing to say to you and suggest you do the same.
i have reported you for your latest action.

scaremongering is what that's called and it's a shame people are so negative about someone's physique that it msut be unnatural.

... and that's just a few weeks worth of postings. Honestly, the man is just a menace. A good half of the threads he enters end up in bicker-fests and then he generally ends up crying about reporting everyone by the end of it.
I could also give a long list of quotes where davesporty is just giving out mindless "tips" (like how full-body splits don't work, Ronnie Coleman doesn't know how to bench press, a 300-lb overweight man MUST take in 300+ grams of protein daily, etc...)
Seriously, WHY is this person still here? When is enough finally enough?
