OT, craziest thing you have witness but didn't react to it.
Just curious if any of you have witness anything but didn't do anything about it and then thought back on it.
Several years ago I was in the train going to work, there was an open seat between me and a little boy he must have been about 6 years old. Two women one black one Hispanic saw the seat, both ran for it and tried to sit, at the same time knocking the little kid over.
The Hispanic women got the seat and the black women just cursed her out, but the kids Father was in the train what happen next stayed with me till this day.
The Father runs over and grabs the women by her neck, when she pulled away from him he starts punching her in the face, the women falls over and her head lands on my lap (I was reading the newspaper at the time) I picked up the newspaper high in the air, and I am looking down at her, if you could picture this, all the while she tried to cover her face but the man just kept on punching the crap out of her. What kills me its that normally I would have reacted very quickly but I was in shock at what was happening and I was just looking at him hitting her while her head laid on my lap. Two other men jumped in and grabbed the guy off of her.
When all the commotion was over I was so embarrassed that I didn't help the lady out, everyone was looking at me the rest of the ride, I just kept my head down and read the newspaper.

Nice example that guy sets for his kid. Beating a woman. Real tough guy.
For me probably the craziest thing that happened was I was when I was working sales years ago. I was on the way to see a client, when I received a call from my Aunt telling me that my cousin (her son) was hit by a car and was in serious condition at the hospital. She was very distraught so and spoke with her for awhile, trying to reassure her that things would turn out all right. This made me late for the meeting (don't know why I keep the appt in the first place. Well when I get there I apologize to the client and explain why I am late. The MOFO looks at me and says" I don't care about your Aunt or your F---ing cousin, my time is too valuable for me to be waiting for you"
I sat there and said nothing. I was so shocked that someone would be so cold. He then called my boss to complain about what happened. My boss promptly told him to take his business and shove it up his a$$!
I loved that guy (God rest his soul)

I witnessed a murder when I was 14. I was a runaway and passing through New Orleans with two buddies. We partied in the French Quarters for the evening and got caught up in a drug deal that went bad. While chasing a guy outside the Quarters, my friend and I watched two guys fighting across the street. It was about 3am, but they were directly under a streetlight. While one guy laid there unconscious, the other guy walked a short distance and picked up a boulder (so heavy he could barely carry it)...he raised it as high as he could and crushed the other guy's head. We were kinda freaked out, but it was also a different time in my life, and I don't recall even thinking about calling anyone. However, it haunted me a bit .... several years down the road.

It's all good, BH. In my late 20's I managed the largest rental company in Atlanta.... in West End, Atlanta (most people called it Worst End). I saw a few people right after they were murdered, and I had guns and knives pulled on me during repos on several occasions. From Techwood Homes, University Homes, Capitol Homes, Eastlake Meadows and a 1/2 dozen other of Atlanta's projects....I've seen and been through a lot. But again, even in my 20's I was fearless...or perhaps, stupid . I just changed after having kids I guess. I used to swear I'd never leave a hitcher on the side of the road, but even now I don't pick anyone up (I used to hitchhike all over the eastern seaboard). It's not fear for myself.....it's fear of what might happen to my kid's father . They mean more to me than anything or anybody in this world.

I learned a lot of things about people and life in general while hitchhiking. Remember, this was the 70's. For instance; at this time, everyone was homophobic and you didn't see or know openly gay people (not in most states, anyway). After getting hit on by a few rides I caught and simply saying, "Hey, I'm not like that", I realized that gay people were no different than anyone else. I recall one guy, who after being turned down (lol), and I was getting out, handed me 2 packs of smokes and actually handed me his money clip and told me to take what I wanted. In other words, unless they're a rapist or sicko, they'll leave you alone when you say no...just like straight folks. I know this sounds pretty simple, but it was a revelation of sorts in this time frame/era, and I was ahead of the curve of a lot of folks. I hope this doesn't insult any gay members here, but I'm sure they'll recall what it was like for them 30+ yrs ago. Not many people understood.
I remember a ride from Daytona back toward Atlanta with a school teacher. She had run off with a biker (It was Bike Week down there at the time) and then he dumped her. Her entire back seat area was FULL of empty beer cans, and there were a dozen or so in the front, too. She was pretty lit so I offered to drive. A few hours later she wanted to stop at McD's to get a burger....for her sleeping-buried in beer cans- daughter in the back seat that I never knew was there! Un-freakin'-believable. I could tell a dozen more stories like this one, but you get the idea.

one of the most surreal experiences of my life was when i was probably around 7 or 8 years old i was on the atlantic city boardwalk later than i should have been at that age..
to my left were @100 white guys lined up the width of the boardwalk... and to my right were @100 black guys. they were probably about 50 yds apart.. they did one of them rushes at each other like in braveheart and they beat the crap out of each other for what seemed like a really long time.

I think my post was misunderstood, I meant things that you saw that you could ave helped in some way like calling the cops or intervening yourself. I don't want it to be whats the "worst thing you saw kind of thread"

I have never been in that situation ever. But my friend and his buddy did witness a murder. they were riding home on their bikes and saw an argument near a dumpster and heard "pow pow pow" (gunshots) then commotion and screaming. he said it was a murder because cops came and were there the next day.
the weird thing about this was that while biking the murderers passed them on their bikes just minutes before.

Walked in to a factory hangar full of bodies, dead civilians in Bosnia the thing that stays in my mind 24/7 is the little girl on hanging on the bayonet of a AK47, every time I pick my daughter up, I have that image in my mind
I dont feel human at all
when I saw the captain in my regiment blow the brains out of a Russian pilot, the pilot pulled out his wallet and said look at my kids and wife, the captain said, look at that refugee camp and the dead children you killed, pulled out his gun and shot the pilot right through the forehead
when we walked up to a guy begging for someon to kill him, the Serbs had skinned his face and he was in the ditch moaning, he was moaing, and as it was dark my friend lit his lighter and saw his face, the guy had no face it was skinned off, my captain shot him in the head
when I found a little girl in a basement under her mothers body burned, 15 family members burned alive, the little girl was alive and only 15months old
when we were forced by the Serbs to collect the dead civilians and bury them, we were supposed to jump in the river and bring out the massacred civlians and bury them, the civilians were butchered like animals
wellcome to reality guys, sometimes I ask my self how I sleep at all, when I came to th US, I was in school for 3 years and did not open my mouth once, never talked to anyone fro the whole 3 years, everyone thought I was crazy.
Maybe I am

Man reading your stories makes me glad that I live in the rural midwest. I lived in Philly for several years so I know what its like to live in the city. I have been jumped and shot at many times. Ill tell you that the towns here are not that small, and I can walk around any time day or night without being careful what neighborhood I'm in. I will never live in the city again.

I've witnessed two murders - one a gangbanger by his own gang, one a homeless man by street thugs
I've seen the cops (in Prague) harass Romani gypsies for no reason, and threaten them with violence, and seen the evidence of that violence being carried out
I've seen a toddler get literally thrown off the bus... but as he did, he managed to pick the guy's pocket
I've seen people OD on coke, meth, heroin and alcohol (not all at once, and each of them survived the incident)
I've seen a cross burining on the lawn of an interracial couple
And then there was the stuff that I allowed to happen to me without stopping... some of which was very, very ugly
But the one incident that I felt like I *could* really have made a difference (to someone besides myself):
I was in college, at the local grocery store. An elderly asian couple was in line in front of me. They had two cabbages and a sack of potatoes. When it came time to pay, they didn't have enough money, and had to put the potatoes back. It was obvious that they were poor, and they looked very thin. I don't think it was a matter of not having the money on them at the moment. And I thought of offering to pay, but I did not. Perhaps they would have turned me down, but I really wish I had offered.

Hey, this thread is really interesting, have no idea how I came across it, lol.
I'd like to hear more of your stories.
Obviously being young I do not have many, but something that always sticks in my mind was one day waiting at the bus stop a winter night after finishing work.
It was raining and a mother and her two children were crossing a busy road. The boy must've been around 6, and the girl maybe 9 or 10. When they got to the end, the little boy tripped over the kerb and fell badly on his front. He cried quite badly as it obviously hurt. I was about to go over and offer help but the mother went over to him. She practically dragged him back onto his feet and smacked him hard and called him a "f*cking little ****". She then truend to her daughter and went to hit her and said "don't you be f*ckin laughin as well". She wasn't even doing anything. The little boy went back to his mother and hugged her around the leg, and she went to strike him again and said "don't wipe all your f*ckin **** over me". His sister went up to him and comforted him, while she said "you're both going to f*ckin bed when you get in" and walked off. His sister put her arm around him and they walked home together with him crying.
That was around 5 months ago. I was in so much shock I didn't know what to say. When I got home I was eating my dinner and then just burst out into tears. It still deeply saddens me to this day.
I have seen them and her kids a few times since crossing the road. The mother appears to be something like a heroin adict (it's a rough area where you get a lot of people on **** like that). My heart goes out to them, but I don't want to say anything in case the mother turned it on them.
Hopefully I can change this in the future though, since I plan to become a primary school teacher myself

lol! Yeah, everytime she walks past me now I wish I could just report her to social services or something; but quite frankly I'm in no position to. I don't really know what sort of life those kids live or anything. I just smile at them when they walk past, just try to make the effort to be nice really.
